M41 AA Bulldog 6x6

Hey Mal, I would say all that have been watching will agree that you qualify as our resident Bulldog Guru. You've certainly done the research and I don't know of anyone else who has as many M41s as you do. Hope you don't mind a jerk like me piggybackin' on all your hard work.
I'll worry about the tail lights when I get a better board. Right now they only come on in reverse and you have to really apply some throttle before they kick in. My Taigen Pershing is the same way and when I tried to make them stay on all the time by connecting them in parallel to the headlights I had all kind of problems. Yours look really good, though. Did you have to make the slotted covers or did you get aftermarket lights somewhere? (Am I wrong in thinking that only HL and Taigen make the M41 in 16th scale?) Are the headlights supposed to have any kind of hood or visor? I have a bunch of warm white LEDs and thought about trying them, but the ones Bill sent me are really cool so I wanted to try them out. I still have to do the lights on the regular Bulldog hull top (with the turret) so now I have something to think about. How good were the lights on the real thing? I probably should only have the outside ones lit, but I'm known for butchering realism when I feel like it so I don't want to disappoint my fans.
I only know one guy that's added metal roadwheels, but it looks like you may have, Mal. How do they hold up? If you have any, what's your opinion of appearance and durability? Do you have to upgrade any other suspension pieces to prevent failures? I wasn't planning on getting too crazy with this tank, but I might not be able to help myself. I'm even thinking of doing a lift off top, mainly to make hull top changes faster. How are yours set up? I don't know if you could tell in the last video, but I made a change to your rope idea for the hatch supports. I already had two coils of rope on the fenders, so that's a chain around the hatch supports. That will show up better in still photos. And there's still lots of paint and weather work to be done.
I'll do one more close up video and get some stills for details and that will be it til I get a better board and after that I'll post one last video of the finished project.
EDIT: Rex and I cross posted so I deleted the question.

I also have the other hull top with the turret so I'll have to do the lights on that one, too. You sent enough for both and I haven't FUBARed any of them (yet). I think I'll have one left over if I don't burn any, but I'll get around to ordering another set. These were a good find. That's why I asked for the link here, so I always know where to find it.
And I still have another complete turret so if you need any pieces of that one just let me know. The grab handles and stuff are still on the sprues.

Hey again, Bill, do you still have the photo I sent of the headlights with the mesh screen over them? I'm starting to think they did that to prevent damage of the display tank. While I was looking for that photo I found this
Kinda looks a bit like a Bulldog lower turned backwards. Sprockets in the front? Hmmm. So many tanks out there, makes a guy feel downright ignorant sometimes. Can't remember who, but one of those famous dudes said, "What I don't know could fill volumes".

Hi Max U52
That SP gun pic is based on an M24 Chaffee chassis - it preceded the M41 light Tank. Wikipedia tells me it's an M41 155mm Howitzer.
Re the taillight covers - the M41 uses the same ones as the M4 & M26, so I got the Tamiya M4 Sherman D sprue from AAF. The headlights don't have visors or hoods. Yes only HL makes a1/16th M41, though Glencoe made a 1/15th one & FOV/21st Century made a 1/18th one. Re the metal road wheels, yes I have got a set, but I use them, along with the Henntech track tensioners to offset the weight of the gearboxes - so I only have the first road wheel & the idler in metal - on one tank only so far. It means I don't have to put dead weight in the tank.
Attaching the upper - I made a metal reinforcement plate with a tongue To the upper, I installed a sheet fibreglass plate on a spacer, that the tongue slots into At the rear I'm intending to add magnets - still a job to do.
Yep noticed the rope coil, looks good.

OK, last video til a better board goes in, and some stills for detail. Still lots of paint and weathering to do.
I'm glad you like it, Rex. Tells me I'm doing something right. Have you painted yours, yet?

1. Yes, I do like it.
2. Yes, you are doing something / everything right, but I think there is only one thing that needs to be corrected (in my opinion).
The bucket always goes on the back, never the front. Buckets carry beer and wine bottles and need some protection from frontal assault.
3. No, mine hasn't been painted yet. Good grief, compared to yours, mine isn't worth painting.

Your photo didn't post right, Rex. That same thing happened to Erik the other day, but I'm not sure why or how he fixed it.
I can take the bucket off the front at any time, I just found it a convenient place to hang one. I do have one on the back, and now I'll have to put some wine bottles in it.

The AA M41 finally made it outside and got caught by the camera. Where it's off to, I have no idea.
Now that I've figured out how to drive a clark board I'm going to have to get one for this. It would give me better sound and I'd be able to rotate the quad .50s in both directions. It would also improve the tail light functions.
I wonder if Clark could put quad .50 sounds on the M41 board?

Here ya go, Greg, here's another look at the playground. This covers about three quarters of it. I've been trying to keep the videos short so I have a couple others that have a lot more detail. Maybe I should start a thread for those?
