I had an awesome time and it was great to see all the familiar faces. Great job by ACE in running the event!

Joe
Thank you for posting that, Joe, that was great footage. I made an early probing advance across the bridge with my Panther and got Dave to come across to join me with his Pershing. We got a few shots into the two tanks that were occupying that sector. At that point we attracted too much attention, four or five tanks turned up to "service" us and we made a fighting withdrawal, suffered some hits in the process. At that point it degenerated into both sides lobbing shots over the river, and I did more damage to my team mates than the other team, I think I clocked 3 friendly fire hits because of IR bouncing off the rocks or just firing too close to a team mate. Sorry! You can actually see it at 7:20, I fired too close to the Pershing.

I thought someone took some pics? Maybe we kept everyone too busy on the field?

I do, its just the internet in my apartment has gone down and I'm trying to get by with cellphone internet till they fix it later this week. Patience!

Although it is true - ACE did keep me pretty busy tanking all weekend that I didn't have that much time to shoot as many photos or videos as I normally do.

Here is what I've been owing:

Not something you'll see every time at Danville, a Bandai Hummel

Features a full interior with crewmen

Joe's Leopard 1A4 with Clark's latest stabilized board makes its debut

Troy's Sherman

Green Amphibian's amphibian Sherman

Action starts getting hot and heavy

Evel Knievel Tiger

Joe's very cool M36 Jackson

Leopard 1A4 still requires further tweaks

Some photos of the Musuem's newly reorganized RC Tank parts section. I honestly believe you can build a tank complete from all the parts bags here

What's that you say? You need battle units? How many dozen?

Danny's T34 was an interesting and purposeful hybrid of a Taigen lower hull with Trumpeter T34/76 turret and plastic roadwheels. Its a quick little thing but needs stronger tracks!

Daryl Turner showing progress on his Japanese tank (can you guess which one, WoT fans?)

Attention to detail extends to the onboard electronics package

Another tank you don't see at Danville often (actually making a reappearance after a nearly a decade!). It is interesting to fight, to say the least, packing a total of three IR bulbs slaved to the gun barrel

Apparently not everyone got the message that the Tamiya apples were back in stock

Manuevering at the sniper's nest has its hazards

Sunday's zombie battle scenario was pretty fun and fast paced, although a lot of walking was needed

A look inside the Hummel

Note how the recoil gearbox is physically separate and does not follow the gun barrel's orientation. A very ingenious solution!

So is the recoil unit on the Hummel using some kind of pully system to recoil the gun?

Yes, a pulley system that utilizes a flexible sleeve and cable within that both pulls and pushes the barrel. Once installed it is practically invisible both outside and inside the tank. Massive props to the guy who thought it up, though I cannot remember his name right now (I am very bad with names).

The Hummel belongs to James Bolton. For the recoil it's essentially throttle cable put through sleeves to hold the outer
sheathing from slipping. I've used this a couple times for turrets with low clearances to keep elevation at its full throw. On my Resin KV-1E I just made a turret basket to put the recoil unit in then ran the throttle cable. All of this is old hat now that servo recoil is available. Can hide those micro servo's anywhere. The most impressive thing you can't really see are the spring loaded idlers Daryl T made for the Bandai's back then. Can kinda make it out on the last 2 pics.

Thanks Celong and BennyB. That opens up some out of the box Ideas for me. I have wanted to F/O my Hummel or maybe even convert it to a Horness with an L/71 88. I have seen others R/C their Hummels and all the gear was hanging out and took away from the fighting compartment scale look. Using this method to hide the recoil is brilliant!!! So are we talking R/C airplane throttle cable or the cable that some R/C airplane guys use for control surfaces as well? The smaller the better.

You got it. r/c airplane control surface cable. The one thing to watch is to get stuff that the outer sheathing isn't too rigid or you'll get bind ups if you have to do any substantial bends.

I wish I lived next door to youse guys. If I ever win the lottery I think I will be looking for a house next door to your battlefield (or least with my son in Kentucky). The railroad armored car, calliope Sherman, and Green Amphibians' Sherman are eye candy. Heck, all of it is ----but the one that really knocked my socks off was the camo paint job on the Hummel ---- It's my favorite paint scheme and the best one I have ever seen and I have saved it to a file for a couple of my unpainted projects.

Yeah it was a great time the calliope was a pain to deal with. Not to mention the armor rail car that Danny built. His son was controlling that and one game his son managed to take out 5 enemy tanks (I was one of them). But thanks Cleong for the pics. They are really good!
