Well thanks to our good German friend Christian, I bought one of his T-55 lower hull brace kits and a ENIGMA kit! The kit has all major parts and WAS LESS THAN HALF what Shapeways wanted and that included the shipping to Ohio. I also contacted Carson and am ordering his speaker kit, metal tracks and upgraded bearings and TUS units from the newer redesigned kit. Cant wait to get her started!

Let us know if any issues appear on fitting the new gearboxes to the old lower. Didn't know Chris had the T-55 stuff, looks nice.

I keep forgetting I have one. bought it from Commander Bob and never did a thing with it. It was partially built when he got it. I want to replace the gear boxes but lost track of what works with them. i think I will break it all down this winter and finish it.

Going back through this thread, it occurred to me I forgot to post progress on my first T55 project. I bought this tank from a hobby store here in Columbus and the story I was told is this was a Hooben display piece. In any event, the suspension was jacked up and several road wheels were falling off. I finally tore this thing open and discovered several issues.

I guess this is a known issue for the early kits as it had frozen swing arms on all four corners and one was busted. I ordered some new ones from Carson and polished all the shafts and joints were they come together to get a more smooth operation. I also replaced the cheap hardware with new nuts and bolts.

Sorry Carson, I saw the hull brace you have listed and thought, I can build my own! I took this sheet of steel and fabricated the lower plate for stability and mounted my TUS units to it.

I bought the Tammy TUS units from WSN123 and I added bearings to the road wheels and idlers. I also added the track tensioner and small brace for good measure. The tracks came from Christian and are the T72 type he sells on his site.
