Default So I bought a Hooben T-55

On a whim, I visited the local hobby store and managed to talk the owner into selling me his Hooben T-55 display case tank. According to him, he bought it from a Hooben rep after a R/C show. It was put together quite well with only a few minor issues here and there. I scored the tank with full electronics, radio, and a sweet custom aluminum padded case for $399. Now I need to find metal tracks....I already contacted Kenny and he is sold out with no date for any future runs. Anybody have any ideas? I sent a message to Chris38bk so I may have to use his T-72 tracks IF they are available. I will post some pics when I get home later.

You might send an email to Bob at ETO. He probably doesn't have any, but might give you some helpful information on sourcing them.

FYI, I bought my metal tracks from him back when he sold Hooben kits.

Does anyone know if this is an accurate and functioning website? It says they have the ARTR T-55 for about $355 US. If that's true I'll buy one, but after the experience with goRCgo I'm a little skeptical. I sent them an email under "contact us" but I've never seen a system like that before so I'm not sure it was even sent.

Has anyone bought from there recently? Any info would be most appreciated.

Gary,
I've never ordered anything from their site, but have contacted them for replacement T-55 parts. At first it was a pretty good experience as I got some new sprues, upper/lower hull, and gearboxes as they were all unusable with the kit.(mine was a G1 with all the casting problems). I recently tried to contact them again about some other parts that were garbage for the
suspension and haven't heard back. This was a month or 2 ago. As far as I know anyone who used to carry Hobben stuff has stopped, such as ETO and welsh dragon due to communication and quality control. So if you get a T-55 your pretty much on your own for parts and support. You could also try emailing them at their support address. [email protected]

Keep checking EBay. I got a set for $100 on there last year. I do have a set of the stainless tracks that are of the newer T72 type some of the Syrian ones run. I actually bought them from a guy on here from Germany.

I run mine with plastic tracks and its just fine, in fact the gearboxes bent shafts and stripped gears before the plastic tracks had any wear.

Be careful on the gearboxes, they likely will fail pre-maturely, plan for installing new (better brand) gearboxes.

I've heard back from one of the dealers listed on the Hooben website and he says he quit dealing with them 3 years ago because of too many problems and poor service. He advised me not to send them any money, as he says they are famous for taking your money and then not sending any product. I think I'll play it safe and wait a while, but if I see a T-55 on ebay or someplace I may get it. Same for tracks and parts, I won't try to get them from Hooben, only from another source that has them in stock (and takes PAYPAL!).

Besides - first, the JAGDTIGER!

I have not even opened it yet Benny. I hope it does not have the same crappy electronics my Elephant came with. If it does, I will just swap them out. If anybody has any tracks they wish to part with, let me know!

Thanks Onondaga, I took a chance on the Hooben site because they allow Paypal payment which gives me the ability to get my money back should they attempt to cheat me.....we shall see...

Mark the deadline date (usually 45 days from the date of purchase) to open a dispute. Open a dispute the day before the deadline. Scammers always try to delay until this time is over.

I bought my T55 directly from them a few years back. I also bought some tracks from them too, at a later date. There was some "engrish" in their emails that I had to figure out, but nothing that hindered the purchase. Everything arrived quickly and safely. (to Los Angeles) Like I said though, it was a few years ago, so I dunno how it is now.

Was that the packing it came in, in the background or the celebration that followed once you got it all running

That is a bag of outgrown ATV riding gear! With two growing boys, I imagine I will be adding bags in the near future...

Before you folks send any money to Ark/Hooben, you may want to do some reading on the RC Boat forums or contact their former investor, John Amman, who lives in Chicago to ask his opinion. He was about to bring them to the States last year until the you-know-what hit the fan with quality & non-delivery issues. Sounds like a bad deal all around with legal action happening.

Like I mentioned above, I got my stuff from them with no issues. I have heard quite a few horror stories though. It's a shame they're so hit and miss about it.

".... I sent a message to Chris38bk so I may have to use his T-72 tracks"

Is it mean tracks for T-72 Russian tank? Anybody manufacturing such tank in 1/16 scale?
or T-72 means the type of tracks?

Trumpeter has announced a 1/16th scale T-72 in their future releases, though no pictures of it exist yet.

I wanted to clarify my previous post. I am not sure about issues and can only tell you my experience? I went back through my receipts and found that I bought my Elefant, from Twin-Horse Sales (Hooben), in May of 2014 and received it in 10 days from the time I ordered it and paid via PayPal. I was given a tracking number for Hong Kong Post and was able to see it travel to me in Nashville TN. Guess I was lucky? Yesterday I sent them an e-mail to see what the status of stock was for the T-55A kit and they replied they would have more by the end of May. I want one and will be a guinea pig and see if they follow through. So start making odds and taking bets!!!

Here is the text of the e-mail exchange.

Dear Rudy
Sorry, will can supply the end of next month.

Best regards!
Grace
