Couple more pages done, how do you all think it looks? The suspension is defiantly the most complex part of assembly on this tank, I hope it makes sense!

Hi Moo
They look good - of course the proof of the pudding is in the eating - my Scorpion is still in transit.

nice one, could you add the initial length of the suspension wire before bending for ease of cutting?

I fixed up that step to include the total length of the wire.

This manual will be pretty different from normal instruction manuals. It will include painting into the manual, it will show you what to assemble before painting, and then what to assemble after painting. Since most parts are glued on its best to assemble most of the tank before painting to get the best adhesion. This also will help you to use normal spray paint to prime or paint the ABS. I personally use Krylon Fusion brand spray paint to prime it and then you can paint model paints on top of that, or just use a primer and color in one spray paint.

Few more random pages added. Once the manual is all done the full thing will be free to download on the store page for anyone to see it all. A lot more pages to do still! Anyone thinking of ordering a kit feel free to, the instructions should be done by the time your order is ready to ship (~2-4 weeks or sooner) http://spykerworkshop.webs.com/order

ksoc - Thanks!

Got another page done. To my knowledge I'm not sure if any other instruction manual covers painting as detailed as I'm doing this one. The whole first half of the manual shows what you should assemble before painting. The rest of the manual will show you how to put everything together now after painting and get it up and running!

To show you guys just how simple and easy the transmission in this tank is. It uses the gears from the Tamiya 70168 gearbox. The kit comes with 2 different motor mount plates to fit the 2 types of 370 bolt patterns I've come across. Two more pages attached.

I decided to change the price of the whole Scorpion kit. I cut $50 off the main kit cost, its now $395. Reason being I will no longer be drilling or doing much cleanup work to the printed parts. The kits will come with the raw printed parts directly off the printers. Most of the holes are undersized so you need to drill them out to proper sizes. Most parts don't have enough clearance around the hole to simply print them at the right size, it also looks and works better drilled. I already have a 6 page instruction manual on just what size each hole needs to be drilled so its very easy to do, you just need to get a hold of the drill bits. It will save you guys money and me time on producing the kits!

http://spykerworkshop.webs.com/scorpion-tank

What I added to the website in the "REQUIRES" section:
  • Remove support material and file/clean-up parts
  • Must drill holes to larger sizes (Includes an instructional drill guide)
(Drill bits needed listed below)
  • 0.07"
  • 5/64"
  • 3/32"
  • 1/8"
  • 9/64"
  • 3/16"
  • 3mm
  • 5mm
  • 7mm"

Here is the full instruction manual so-far. I'm about 75% of the way done, getting there!

Very impressive Moo! Hope this endeavor works out for you. Now that you have this kit ready to ship, what's next....? Something british or french WWII era would be welcomed as well. Guess we can let you catch a breathe though.

Actually the next thing I'm going to do will be a 1/14th printed RC forklift for the Tamiya semi trucks. Based on my own design in image attached.

Next tank I want to make is probably a Bradley. Anyone know if a 1/16th already exists or coming up for that?

I know people have converted a few of the 1/18 Bradleys to R/C. Ludwigs site has a Bradley listed, but no pictures or information on them. http://www.ludwigs-hobby-seite.de/US...zeug%20HQ.html

Then there was this guy who scratch built 3 of them: http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=40354

There is another site that has the tracks and sprockets for a Bradley: http://www.afv-model.com/4711shop/in...th=10_14_15_40

Those are the only Bradley related sites I can think of. A Bradley would be really cool though. Would go well with my Abrams...

Forgot to mention...just doing the running gear as a separate purchasable item would be good too since it's also used on a variety of other vehicles like the MLRS/MARS and the AAVP7.

That scratch built Bradley looks amazing! 3d printing can't come close to that without lots and lots of post processing work, like sanding, filling, etc.... lol

Attached my favorite page of the instruction manual:

The guy that did the scratch build used a master part and did resin molds.

The tolerance on the tracks I basically had to print them again and again to get them right. Probably about 40 different prints until I got everything right. The tracks are slightly over-scale just to add more strength for this model.

Some areas still need extra filing to make it the proper tolerance, mainly on retraction points. When you print a hole the start and stop point of each action can build up a tiny blob when the nozzle moves to another area, similar to molding/parting lines from injection model kits. Needs to be cleaned up.

Back to making progress on the FV107 now! This one is destined for RCSparks Studios. He did a couple really cool videos on my snow blowers over the winter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqk3jFAUKCk

Printed manuals come in the mail tomorrow, can't wait!

Looks awesome! What color will you be painting the whole tank?

I got the instruction manuals in the mail today they are SO COOL! I attached a sneak peak of the 3 posters included also, and the electronics page is all printed on 11x17" pages. The manual itself is a saddle stapled booklet, everything came out so perfect. Any orders come with all these goodies!

I also got, after 4 weeks.... some gears I ordered from ShapeWays. Overall pretty horrible for the cost I paid. $30 for 3 sets of gears, and took them 4 weeks to ship them, just in their basic white "plastic" I don't mean to bash on them but I can't see these being functional parts, at least for gears. I know they are printed with powder but I thought they cleaned it off and polished it smooth but when you pick them up you get powder on your hands. Seems really weird. Attached some images of them compared to my ABS gears. The white ones are the ShapeWays ones, the cream colored ones are my ABS ones, and the black ones are my newer ABS gears that I enlarged the tooth size on. (Any orders ship with the larger ABS tooth gears)

The ShapeWays gears certainly visually look better but the gear mesh felt rough from all the powder. I think they would absorb any grease used on them. I will do a few tests on them.
