Default Pinion Gears *sigh*

Hey all,
Here we go again... I'm looking for stock replacement Heng Long motor pinion gears.

I get conflicting info everywhere. Yes I've searched the crap out of RCU and Google and every other tank forum. The best I come up with is "Hey, try this, maybe..." and 1/2 of what I find are dead retail links.

So... anyone who ACTUALLY knows I'd love to hear it.. is HL using 48 pitch, 0.5MOD, 0.6Mod... or what?

Where can I get a whack of them? They're tiny pinions and should be 50c each, not $5-6.

...heck I'd be happy with plastic gears, not much torque coming off the motor!

I might be able to help. I've got a buttload of pinions you can have but you'll have to pay the postage. I'll take one to work and give it to the eggheads and see if they can get the pitch for you. I have two different kinds here, brass and steel, any preference?

I've asked the same question, maybe Erik can lend a hand here. Also, where to source.

36 pitch Edit:48 pitch
http://mitosal.com/HopUpGear.htm

Thought ETOarmor carried some as well but couldn't find any on their site.

Thanks, Bret, for the pitch, because I forgot to bring one in this morning.

So Strato, if you just want the stock HL pinions that come on the motors I have a bunch of them you can have, Just let me know if you want the steel or brass pinions. Or both.

Edit: Sorry, they are 48 pitch. Was thinking of some traxxas pinions I was messing with a couple nights ago.

Think robinson racing makes some 48 pitch pinions as well.

48p for the gears. I used 48p gears direct from my 1/10th scale SCT and it fit perfect. The brass gears are a bit different though. I believe they are .6 mod. I don't have any more left around to see

Does it matter if they're the smaller pinions from the motors or the ones from the dual ratio with the set screw? The steel DRGB pinions with set screw and snout are 48 pitch, but the brass are .6 mod. I'm still not positive about the tiny (8 tooth?) pinions that come with the stamped steel-sided GBs.

Yea I think there is a bit of misnomer here as 48 pitch METRIC is .6 module while 48pitch standard is more like .5 module.

Try servo city or robot marketplace too. I believe they carry some pinions.

Oh see the fun I stir up? :P

I do mean the little 8 or 10 tooth pinions on stock HL gearboxes. Don't know anything about set screw gears but that'd be nice, beats destroying motors trying to get these damned press fit gears off...

One day I'll find a puller that works... I've bent a couple before giving up without even budging the darned pinion.

This one seems meaty though.

The one Brett posted is a great item. Works with ever tank I've had to do.

I've used the GWS GP-Std for over 20 years with no problems. Yup some pinions are tough, but even cranking hard as hell this one has never failed me.

Was just looking for a link for you to possibly buy and check out but looks like they are discontinued. The one your looking at looks pretty good though.

They were both on Amazon, I just ordered the other one because it's Prime eligible, so free shipping & faster delivery. Sold.

I will update if it works

I came up with two pairs of brass pinions for you, and two pairs of steel as well. I have more steel pinions if these aren't enough. Now I have to figure out how to send it like a letter. Otherwise the shipping will be a killer. I'll do my best to get them in the mail this week, but to be honest it will probably be more like Monday.

I just ordered a pinion puller myself.

He He, yea a little confusion there. I actually use the GWS but when I looked for a retailer they were all out and labled discontinued. The GWS website hasn't been updated since 2009 so they may have
disappeared unfortunately. I have seen them on ebay occasionally. Solid brass without the use of the sliding piece that looks to give resistance on the pinion that the walkera has. I"m guessing that may be what Strato has bent on his.

Damn, guess I better remember to be running a heavy for that! And what if it's the best small gadget in your toolbox? Guessing you'll be fine, according to Shaker and Chief it's a good puller.

The one I had bent I believe was this Waltersons one... I think it's an aluminum frame. I noticed the frame bowing out soooo I stopped..
