Centurion Tank 1:16

Geez... so tempting.
Just wished I didn't have so many other things to build FIRST! Maybe an RTR but the time and devotion into a HUGE build like this would be so consuming. But worth it.

To everyone interested in the Ludwig Centurion - Clark Model has the recordings ready for the Centurion.
A TK-20 series board (all-in-one functions + sound) can directly replace HL board and also use Tamiya battle system. I have one on my HL Leopard 2A6 and it has been great. Minimum order is 3 identical boards at $95USD each + shipping from TW.
Any taker? I will get one and Chris will likely to get one for himself too. It may takes some time to get that custom board made, so I wish to order in-advance.
Update from Chris confirms that the Centurion is VERY close to completion. He is away for a few weeks on holiday though.
The Chally one sounds something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohhFoqPHdaY

Chris:
I served numerous years as an Infantry company OC with a troop of Centurians attached and have been interested in a 1/16 or 1/25 RC model since the late 60's and early 70's ( to go with my old Leopard 1 and Chieftan or my current Leopard 2A6M CAN, M-51, M-26, JS-1, T-55, Panther and Tiger-1)
If possible I would appreciate some sort of notification when this beauty is available.

Hey guys,
I can confirm that the Centurion is already completed and available to order. I ordered all essential parts last week for about 850EUR and the kit should ship in 3 weeks. Details here:
http://www.ludwigs-hobby-seite.de/Centurion%20MK%20III%20Tank.html
I have also talked to Clark (Clark Electric of Taiwan) to make a TK24 board for Centurion, which he already has the sound recording. Minimum order is 3 pieces, I will take one and Chris will take the rest.
There are only 2 production components needed: the Elefant tracks (Asiatam) and the metal HengLong PZIII suspension arms; which will be used inside the Horstmann boogies and not normally seen. Almost everything else are CNC plastic. The 20pdr Type "A" will be hand-milled in AL. Pretty impressive just by looking at the instructions pdf:http://www.ludwigs-hobby-seite.de/Ce...uanleitung.pdf
I am going to run it at scale speed so the stock hull should be fine as-is. Chris can make certain parts in metal instead of plastic but he insisted that thick plastic hull would be stiffer than even Tamiya metal ones. So I went with all-plastic.
This is probably the first 1/16 RC tank with Horstmann suspension system!

I think you can order more packs and mix them, so 4 packs of MT025 (6*4 = 24) can fit 3 tanks!

The upper hull is finely designed and milled - it snaps-on tightly on the lower hull to provide extra hull stiffness and strength. The deck can be removed without any tool.
You have to glue/weld the styrene seamlessly to get maximum strength.
If done properly, the seam should be as strong as the rest of the sheet. I add epoxy inside the load-bearing seams (like the lower hull) just to be sure.
A little help from dozer Centurion to press down the seams...
Then I proceed to clean up the 3D printed final drives. Tried some new tools I bought in Tokyo last month.
I cut off injection marks with a Volks 9mm shaping knife. It is marketed as made of folded and heat-treated steel, just like a katana. Very sharp and hard. Cuts even thick plastic with a light push (about $35USD).
I used my Japanese Hiroshima Wataoka for-plastic file (Nigata Yasuri) for this task. It removes material extremely fast, although it is quite expensive for a file (about $15USD). I think you can order them on 1999 store.
The printed plastic is to my surprise, styrene (not ABS) and can be glued with regular Tamiya hobby glue.

Jeeze CHRISTAN... Another great Tank... I know many have been requesting a Centurion for some time now..... Your Churchill is actually my next target.. I'm psyching-myself up for that build and it seems like a fairly complicated build... it may be above my paygrade...
I finally got (with your Help) the FAMO from Asistam....Thank You..... I still have your Cromwell to do.... so many tanks, no time... for what it's worth.. I vote for an M-10 or an M-18.... : )

It is starting to look like a Centurion with the side attached. The top end of the upper front plate needed some filing to become horizontal.
I plan to hold the engine hatch with strong magnets. The whole upper deck is still removable with bare hands.
The return rollers mount set is not included in the kit. MATO MT025 is recommended but the axle is too short.
There isn't a "correct" way to get it done. You can mill M3 threads inside a M5 set screw but I do not have the equipment. Instead I got some 15mm screw extenders to get it fit. Some drilling on hull side is required.

My Cent hull turned up yesterday - 5 kgs of plastic, plus a couple of metal bits. Bit of a dilemma, start this, or continue with the Scorpion?
Hi Freddy, thanks for the link, but couldn't access the site.
Any further progress Longsheep?
