Any body done an RC from a Static Model Conversion?
Hi all... I just purchased a couple of Juckenburg 1/16 static kits... The Hetzer and sdkfz 251 D... I would lik eto do an sdkfz 251 G Pak 40...
well my question is.. is it possible to make them functioning RC vehicales? Has any one done it? I have seen YouTube videos of running examples...
and Asiatam has a set of metal tracks for a nonexistant Hetzer....so apparently it can be done but, I have no idea how to do it?... does anyone know
of any fourm or online discussions?
any help in this regard would be helpful... Thanks in advance and I look forward to you're replies, Joe

it can be done with a lot of work, making working suspensions, gun elevation, recoil, etc. It wouldn't be a battling tank, as many of the resin parts would not hold up to the stresses, but if you wanted something to move around on a nice flat surface, then more than likely doable. Again, only after a lot of work.

I am certainly not afraid of the work... I was just hoping one of you guys had done it already and had some guidance to offer.. or maybe point me in the direction of a fourm string that I could follow...
Thank you all replies are welcome.. Joe

Did you ,know that the name Hetzer was actually never used by the panzer forces. That name was used by someone completely unrelated to the units that used them. It is the Jagpanzer 38T

NOT for the faint of heart. I bought a Juckenburg E-100 kit and it has been sitting for quite some time as frankly it frustrated me after about 50hrs or so work. I have a working suspension, but I will probably turn this into a STuG/Jagd type to simplify the process. The resin parts while good, are hardly square which leads to a host of fitment issues. Everything I have done prior has been a piece of cake compared to this. Good Luck!

Check these out.. some of you veterans will no doubt know of this stuff, but I am still relatively new.. and and searching what is available...so maybe the sdkfz 251 D would fit on one of these.. if not.. if I can get a hold of one of these metal prime mover chassis,,I'll do an AA version....
any thoughts on where ~I can get this stuff?

So apparently nearly all of what I asked for is available... Ludwig is a Great lead.. and I thank you for that Borealis... Green amphibian is also a possibility... Thank You Yellowshaker....I reached out to both and am awaiting responses.... also Asiatam has the functioning Famo and along with Christian at Juckenburg, he is getting me numbers on that to go
with his Famo 88 top... this morning I have been trying to track down a 1/16 Pak 40 kit from Scale-line in the Neatherlands... well that is proving really hard tp do... I think they are no longer in Business.... all contact info goes nowhere... so if any one has one that they want to get rid of,,, Here I am.... also any ideas as to where can find the Scale-line people
(the owners name was Ton?)
Just want to thank you all for the help and advice..... it helped alot, If any one is interested I'll keep you posted

Thanks Panzerpaul... I just had contact with Ludwig.. apparently Jukenburg chassis's are not able to fit with his stuff... the Sdkfz 251,,,is another bust... I am in line with everybody else waiting for Asiatam to finally make one... I have Christian sorting our a Famo combination of his Famo 88 and the Asiatam chassis and running gear...
For the Hetzer I might end up suffering through a skratch built chassis... it'll move.. maybe fire, but no suspension??? As for the Pak 80... that is also proving to be difficult... I had a near 30 year break in my participation in this field and although much has gotten better, somethings' never change!!!! maybe it's my choices of projects..
Nothing is easy...

Jhdumas, you really need to look at Chris Ludwigs Hetzer kit and parts at this link. I am going to use this fro my Hetzer build. It looks to be an easy build.

Thanx Maus45... I'm on it....I already purchased the Juckenburg kit so.. I'll be getting Ludwig's Sprockets, Idlers, Return Rollers... maybe the road wheels and the metal tracjs as well as the motor and gears.... gotta squeeze it into the Juckenberg kit...
So what do you think... road wheels and suspension?..... what am I missing... are you also starting with a Juckenburg kit? Joe

I was going to use a Blue Star resin kit, but when Chris posted his Hetzer kit in plastic, I had to reconsider. I will use some of the detail from the Blue Star, but the basic Hetzer and running gear will be the stuff from Chris. Suspension, Drive Sprockets, Idlers, track tensioning parts. May use his metal wheels as well. I want to be able to run it and not worry about it falling apart. I already have the Ludwig Panther A upper hull and it is strong once you glue all the panels together. The Hetzer should be the same. Rudy

Yeah I like the idea of using his suspension and running wheels also... still not sure how it will work... I might need to place a metal liner inside the plastic chassis....to have something to fasten things to...
I probably should have used the Blue Stay kit... but I have purchased many kits from Chris... and his hull plastic is thick... What he lacks in detail is easily fixed... just worried about getting it all in there...
What motors and gears will you be using?

I may use the gear boxes Chris has on his site. The only thing that would be better is if the mid/lows from Eric would fit. That would leave more room for the mini servos for the gun elevation/traverse and recoil? It could get awfully crampt inside there???

The mid/low gearboxes from Taigen are what I use in my Hetzers and they work great. I did not get any request for information about the Hetzers I make yet. how did you send your request?

Looks to me that these projects are going to cost a fortune with the added risk of several different makers parts not being compatible with others.
Hard way to go but it has been done.
