Default New Waltersons 1/24th Scale IR Battle Tanks!

Hey Tankers,
So Waltersons has purchased FoV RC and is will be re-releasing the 1/24th scale tanks with upgraded electronics and new paint jobs! These tanks will be made available later this year after a few upgrades have been completed! They will have all kinds of goodies with them and will have a new transmitter as well, this one fits in your hand a lot better

Here below we have them next to our upcoming Sherman 76mm tank:

The Pershing will also be made available upon launch as well, it is not currently ready to be shown as they are still working on it. I also got confirmation the King Tiger is being worked on as well It may not be available at launch but will be soon after. I figured you would all be happy to hear of more IR battle tanks so I wanted to share! The IR system is being revamped with the electronics I am told so far. This will extend our tanking from 1/16th and 1/72nd to also the 24th scale Questions are welcome, though this early I might not have all your answers yet.

I have three VS Pro 1/24 tanks that are IR. Will the new 1/24 tanks be compatible with mine as far as the IR system is concerned. In other words, will I be able to battle with the new 1/24 tanks? Thanks Erik.

Most likely not. The IR battling is getting a full revamp. 16 player battles and team based fighting (A team, B team, and neutral) will be coming to these guys. New models will be coming (not just the 7 VS owns) so expect more tank goodness
Cross platform compatibility is a legal issue here in the US. We wish to play friendly, tankers turning on each other is the last thing we need. Luckily these guys will be big enough for aftermarket boards, so that shouldn't be an issue.

You won't be able to battle with your VStanks. This is cool news. They already had nice proportional speed from the start, so any improvements will be great. Hopefully their hard tracks will be pin-linked instead of snap together ones like the originals. They work, but fall apart too easily IMO. It'd be really nice if they offer metal upgrades as VStank tried to do in the past. I have a 1/24 VStank Tiger 1 with metal tracks (which are highly detailed and perfect fit), BUT the plastic suspension arms and wheel assembly doesn't hold up to well to the weight and throws tracks on anything that's not a hard surface. Anyway enough ranting... Cool news!!

Wow! Any idea how much roughly they will cost? Also, will you be releasing WWII versions of the 1/72 scale?

Supposed to be releasing all sorts of conflicts in 1/72, so I am betting ww2 versions is basically guaranteed.

Hi Erik,

Great news on the 1/24 scale tanks! Although the new Ir system will not be compatible with Vs Tank will it work with the old FOV Ir system? There were 4 channels one could choose from and I really liked that setup which eliminated shooting your own team member. I also think the turret rotation speed is a little slow on the FOV tanks, especially the sherman.

I like the Firefly, finally a British tank, Any plans for more WWII armor after the King Tiger & Pershing?

I agree with Nick, the IR battle system in the original FOV tanks was quite nice. Team 1 was free for all, plus specific Teams 2, 3 and 4 that would reject hits from other members of the same team. It would be great if this were maintained for backwards compatibility for those that still have the old FOV models.

The FOV protocol was also much more sophisticated than any other brand - header plus 8 bits of actual data, meaning the same FOV protocol could actually transmit up to 256 codes (but it only used numbers 80, 85, 90, and 95).

I had all the FOV 1/24 tanks and all there accessories they where fun I also had a 8 by 21ft table with hills houses and bridges with fake water and trees and stuff for battling it was fun but to bad no one ever got into them by e so i took it all down and sold everything off but one panzer tank,
this video was when I was half way done detailing the layout it looks much better later on.

I have a VStank T-72 and a FOV sherman, and the latter is ALOT better in terms of control and electronics.

I have several of the FOV tanks still, some still in original unopened boxes. I have two Tiger I tanks and one Jagdpanther (modified Tamiya 1/25 model) that roam my basement battlefield in autonomous mode, they fire every second or so. Not much of a challenge in third person but great when I use the wireless camera in first person.

If these Waltersons are compatible with the FOV battle system that would be great! Hopefully they will be some new tanks, I see a Firefly on the website.

I received the new 1/24 Waltersons Tiger this week from IMEX. I've been having fun with it the past few days. It's very nicely detailed, with lots of goodies, including a working headlamp and cool sound coming from the tank, instead of the transmitter, as the Waltersons 1/72's operate.

It's been breaking in nicely, at least indoors on carpet, with no thrown tracks and I love the prototypical slow tracking operation. You can get the Tiger going pretty fast, at least for a tank, but it sure looks cool just crawling along, rotating the target, looking for it's next victim.

About the only very minor issue so far was getting the commander's hatch up and rotated out of the way to install the included figure. It just took some patience and persistence of very slowing working the hatch back-and-forth and up with the fingers until it loosened-up and rotated over to the side of the hatch.

I love the paint scheme and it's been done quite well, with the charging night insignia on the turret. It even comes with a log to strap to the side of the tank so it'll look spot-on to the real thing. Since this Tiger operated on the Eastern Front, including the Winter, I may eventually put on Winter camo from the Vallejo Winter paint set I've had setting around. But for now, it looks sweeter and runs better than I anticipated. Thanks, IMEX!

That's great to hear! Foe some reason I thought the sound came from the transmitter, and that had turned me away. I may have have to reconsider now.

On the 72nd scale tanks the sound is through the TX, but on the 24th scale you get your sounds through a 1W speaker on the tank

I just received all 4 tanks and they look awesome. I just tried the Sherman out and the slow speed control exceeds my expectations. the sound is quite nice too. these tanks to me, are the best value rc tanks I've ever owned.

Hi Erik,

Are there plans in the future to include the anti-tank gun emplacements that FOV had? I have an Allied and Axis gun emplacement that functioned with the FOV tanks when they were available. Since Waltersons took over the line I was curious as to whether they would bring these back also?

Thanks

I'll check and see. For now I know they include the target, but not sure about future IR plans yet. I'm glad you guys are enjoying them, I think they are great for indoor battles. I keep wanting to have a big battle here but everyone goes on lunch at a different time...
