Default Tamiya Panzer IV

I've ordered the above tank and want to install bearings in the wheels. I'm reading on a couple of different sites that in order to use bearings, "the road wheels will have to be re-worked" Does anyone know what modification is required?

Usually means you have to widen the hole in the wheel for the bearing.

Thanks Benny B, that shouldn't be too difficult with the drill press.

Nope, just make sure your on center or you'll get a wobble in your wheel.

You may also have to make the "pocket" in the wheel a bit deeper so the bearing is flush. It's been a couple years since I helped a friend do that job so I can't quite remember what exactly has to be done.

Hi,I assume you do know that Tamiya make bearings for the PANZER4 ? But whether that includes wheel bearings I don't know.
If you need the name of a supplier go to --

Tamiya labels them as bearings but they are actually bushings. You have to buy bearings yourself if you want to go that route for the roadwheels.

I was going to order some for mine but didn't fancy drilling the holes.
I have some spare bearings which I will try when I build mine to see if they need drilling.

Yep, I don't fancy that either. I'll take a look when it all arrives and then make the decision whether to install them or not.

I didn't need to widen anything on mine when I used the metal road wheels from ETO. My only issue came when I needed to mount the covers on the metal return rollers.

So tell us about the covers, what was the problem with mounting them?

They don't fit into the roller recess like the they would on the plastic roller. I can't recall how I did those caps. I either used a small magnet or shaved them to fit. I want to say the latter on the rollers.

Asiatam and Taigen both have metal road wheels. Asiatam's have separate hub covers and more detail in the wheel and the tire. Taigen's come with metal return rollers in the set, have integrated hub covers, and no markings on the tires. Neither have bushings or bearings. My build has links to a couple of folks in Europe that will put bushings or bearings into the Asiatam wheels and bogies. They could probably do the same with the Taigen wheels, but you'd have to ask to be sure.

I ordered 2 from the link you provided Erik, they should be here in a few days.

Better explain myself, meaning two emitters.

I have Taigens on the return rollers and Asiatams on the roadwheels. You can't use a Taigen outer road wheel on an Asiatam inner road wheel...or any other combination of it. You also can't use Taigen rubber tires on the Asiatam road wheels...or vice versa. Been there...
