SPRING DANVILLE BATTLE WEEKEND MAY 20th - 23rd ...and Family Fun Day
#26
I'll be bringing a few different types of IR emitters, two 940nm and one 890nm so we can do some testing. I'll have a few bare IR emitters for someone who wants to test other motherboards, but please bring your own plug and be aware I'll only have 2-3 of each extra.
Before I start packing today is there anything special you guys want to see? I'll bring up a few Abrams, Leopards, and Challengers too just in case no one has seen yet. The 76mm Sherman will be coming too of course so you guys can check that out early. I'll bring some 72nd scale tanks so we can have a few battles while waiting on the big tanks Is everyone staying at the Comfort Inn again?

Also, if you wish me to test any IR emitter for you, please make sure it has a JST-XH 2 pin plug or the Tamiya emitter plug on it and I will test it for you. If someone has a bare Tamiya IR emitter I will test that as well. I will have these emitters to test with me:
940nm 20 degree 80mW/sr @ 100mA (I'll have plenty of extra of these, I'm guessing these will be the best)
940nm 34 degree 40mW/sr @ 100mA
890nm 44 degree 45mW/sr @ 100mA
I would appreciate if anyone else would like to contribute to this panel, I know IR emitters have had lots of discussions and hopefully we can get a good baseline here.

Most are at the Comfort Inn. SOme use point form other are hotels or take advantage of the smaller & cheaper hotels too. I use both the Inn Keeper & Comfort Inn or my RV. The Dzwarts always RV it.

OK so update on the IR emitters!
940 is definitely the best wavelength of those tested above. 890 was absolutely horrible and didn't register but 1 hit on the array of 5 tanks. I couldn't get it to hit anything else after that first hit
The 940nm did great and one of them actually reached about 5 feet farther than the Tamiya! It also has a much tighter beam spread, making it much more realistic. At about 65 yards the Tamiya was done while the 940nm 20 degree got another 5 feet or so.
This should make shooting more fun as the IR beam is much more compact.

It was a great turn out with at least one game of 12 vs 12 and a few of 6 v 6 v 6 so he games were great. We also had a bunch of new tankers that did very well. The museum was pretty full of patrons and the RC area was constantly full of visitors.
The battlefield was in great shape and was pretty evenly used in all four corners.
The facebook shows some good shots of the weekend.https://www.facebook.com/AAFTankMuse...=page_internal

We took a newb with us last weekend, and he stated that even though we had showed him the pictures, showed him the tanks and described the events, none of that conveyed how cool the actual experience was for him.

A BIG thank you to all who came and made the NEAD Spring Battle weekend a great success.
This battle weekend was held conjointly with the AAF Tank Museums "Family Fun Day". We had about 25 tankers attend and all had a great time. We also had 5 new "rookie" tankers, Paul, Tim, Ed, Dave & Joe. Some rookies came form as far as PA & MD. We ran about 20 battles in various scenarios on Saturday alone over a period of about 12 hours. The weather was great and the battlefield was is great shape. Thanks to all the volunteers who prepped it.
Over 500 people attended the event and we had tons of spectators. By late morning we had over 125 spectators soaking up the RC tank action. Many were given the opportunity to drive our RC tanks on the field and for the kids on the large floor open areas. The AAF had many events to keep kids of all ages busy.
A special thanks to those who drove all the way up from Florida. My WW II Europe travel buddy Steve (read this RCU post: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/rc-t...ur-2012-a.html ) and Bill & Erik from IMEX/Taigen. Taigen attended again and brought a fantastic selection of RC tanks for both the public & RC tankers to examine. The also very generously donated a new Taigen tank to be raffled off with the proceeds to benefit the AAF Tank Mus. Erik gave us a sneak peek at many of the up-coming projects he is working on.... and all I an permitted to say is...STAY TUNED.
Here are a few quick pix.

The Movie is absolutely smashing in every way. Very funny on so many levels. I was not going to see until my son shared the test trailer and I was hooked. So which pair of pants would you wear, Mr Brown pants or Mister Red pants?
