Correct me if I am wrong, but I think there were more conversions based on the Panzer IV than any other WWII tank built by any other nation. Especially when it came to flak guns. I have been a fan of Mato since the beginning and have bought a lot of their models and parts for my own scratch built model projects. I did a couple of flak gun tub conversions a bunch of years ago and recently saw one that I didn't do for some reason ------- a Mobelwagen. So I just had to build that conversion to go with my Ostwind, Wirbelwind and Kugelblitz. Getting all of the parts to fit and be functional was a challenge. I think I built everything twice before I got it sorta/kinda functional. At the same time I was doing the flak gun tub, I have been working two Brummbars (early and late) and a LANG that will fit on the same PzIVF2 lower half.

Wow, that's a busy tank.

I like the quad AAA with the curvy shield / tub the best. The square one is cool too, I like the way it folds out.

All of that fold out business was a bugger for me to build. No kidding, I rebuilt most of it two times, some of it three times before I got it to look right and be functional. I finally remembered why I didn't build it years ago with the other more simple gun tubs. That 20mm quad AA gun is a total scratchbuild. I cast copies of the parts of the single barrel 20mm Verlinden model to get that put together. I'm glad the paint is dry on that thing.

I thought that fold out one was a bear to build. I would give that build, higher scores for technical features, but I like the shape of the curvy one.

As a side note: I have been quoting you around town, and people here think you must be a very wise man...

All always thought the Pz IV AA variants looked better than the actual tank . Never really liked the Pz Iv as a tank but those others are really interesting.

I have built a few PZ4 based vehicles myself and was disappointed I couldn't afford to buy the Juckenburg Nashorn kit but the JS3 was calling my name. I will build a Nashorn someday along with a Hummel and Dicker Max.

Hey ---when I saw the name Dicker Max, I felt like I got struck with lightning. You got me all fired up to build one to sit beside my Hummel and Nashorn. That is one nasty looking SPG. My mania for conversions using the PzIV is getting out of hand, but thanks for reminding me about another project that really interests me.

size lot for less than what my little bungalow here in Concord is worth.... my only concern over there is that that area
was right in the flight path of much fallout from nuclear tests up the road a piece over in Nevada during the 50's...

But the prospect of a 4800 sq new or new_ish home for less than $480k is a VERY compelling place to retire..

I would love to eventually get the 20mm FLAK (I think that's what that is) into a battle tank.. persuade Clark to set up a custom board with the right gun sounds as it's main armament..

I have already turned my second bathroom and walk in closet into a storage room for my hobby parts, kits, etc. I also ask myself why I need a living room --- I don't do any living at all in that room. It's just a place where furniture I don't use - or need - takes up space.

I have thought about getting a place that would end up being more museum and work shop than a home. It would be in Colorado ------- where the background scenery is terrific for diorama photos --- and someplace near where my kids live. This hobby is no longer a spare time activity to me, or even a passion, it is becoming an obsession in my old age. I just can't go more than a couple of days without a project of some sort to keep me happy. This forum is responsible for making my bucket get longer and longer. I gotta thank all you guys for the inspiration I get here.

That single barrel flak gun is a 1/16th (120mm) Verlinden Kit 656 20 mm Flak 38: I don't know if it is still available.

Delta County Colorado still does not require building permits!!! You can build anything you want out in the county, ya just need a state permitted septic system. The climate there is better than St Gorge, cooler in the summer too. An extra bonus is that the four nukes set off in Colorado were all underground and not in that drainage basin.

I've converted my guest bedroom to an office / tank museum / tank workshop / tank room. The HO trains got shoved out into the living room cause we needed the space and otherwise we wouldn't ever play in that room. The D&RGW Silverton line goes around the living room under the sofa and end chairs. So far, the kitchen is still a kitchen, and the bathrooms are still just bathrooms.

What major city is nearby? I have to admit although I don't go often the only thing I'd miss is the ocean....
I grew up first in SF then in Pacifica where I could hear the ocean as I lay in bed. I spent nearly my entire summer as a kid either wandering the hills, cliffs overlooking the ocean or right on the beach itself; from sun up to sun down... it was an easy walk from our house. before I get all misty eyed that was a different age when fences didn't exist over there and all you had to do is pick a spot to climb down to the beach and you were there. Now I've seen ( as has all who see the yearly news reports of the condos falling into the ocean every winter) all that area that was my playground is built thick with housing.

I am ready for a change Pah co chu puk but old affiliations die hard. Truth is besides friends like Rex and a few others there's little to hold me here when I retire..and it's hell expensive here besides politically perverse .. If I were look over the way you suggest, where would I be looking?

No apologies necessary gents. I did some more searching for this project and the gun tub that has the drop down side panels also had 88mm and 37mm gun versions. Didn't find many photos --- I guess there weren't many built. I have an 88mm and searched for a 37mm Flak gun. I found one on eBay and ordered it. The order got confirmed and shipped very quickly. It was then that I discovered I already had a Verlinden 37mm model. Now I have two --- I completely forgot I built one years ago! This isn't the first time I ordered something I already had. I usually do that with reference books. If I had just turned around and looked at the stuff on my shelves I would have seen it. Duh!
