I asked Des if he had any loose M41 tracks I could photograph – he pulled 1 new one out of a container – 3112, 3113, 3114, 3115 – but looking at them, they seemed a bit too square – so compared them to a short length of used track – 3116 – quite different – when you put them side by side – 3116, 3114(3) – the sprocket holes on the square track look to be in the wrong place. Des had bought these spares as M41 track, but I’m not sure that they are – a bit of a mystery. Unfortunately I did not measure them. If anyone has an idea about them - please let me know.
He also had new rubber pads – 3117(2), 3118, 3119, 3120 – notice the seam which wears off quite quickly.

Visited the Huntly shed again on Monday 16/4/2018, hoping to check a few things & re photograph bad shots.Started on the phone box – 3907, 3908 - taking a few measurements, tried to open the box, but the handle wouldn’t budge. Got a hammer & applied TLC – Hammer Time – still wouldn’t budge – Des got his 2lb hammer – budged. Little to see, though, mostly empty – 3913 - 3915.Photo’d the Telephone marker light – 3909, 3910 – the rear lifting ring with cast part number- 3911 - – 17-45K, 2nd line 7384393?Support Rollers with tie down rings, these slope forward – 3916 - – RHS – Part No -18804-9? Realised later than the LHS ones would be mirror image & have a different Part number = no picFinal Drive cover – 3917 – RHS Pt no 7528049, had the same realisation that the LHS one would be a mirror of this & have a different part number. Here is a pic of the LHS Final Drive cover – part of the Trademe post – Pt no not visible – 715800679 – may be in a different position? Also was reading the manual – the early covers had 24 bolts to attach, later ones only had 21 bolts (so should also have different part numbers)

I can remember building a 1/48(?) kit of a Bulldog when I was a teen. It has such a classic "tank" look to it. Thanks for the excellent photos of every nook and cranny. I'm feeling the urge to find a cheap HL somewhere...
Mike.

Hi Gary - Glad to have helped.
Hi Mike - "It has such a classic "tank" look to it." You're so right, but then they lost the 'How To' & built the Stingray - to my eyes, like Bruces Lee's younger brother Ug.
"I'm feeling the urge to find a cheap HL somewhere..." - May the force be with you & photos too please!

Another detail difference
I've only now stumbled across this fantastic thread and want to add what little I remember from my time as a Bundeswehr M41 TC in 1964 - 1966:
The loader's hatch on our tanks was countersunk into a beveled opening in the turret roof, with no splash rail around it, the way it can be seen in the b/w top view photo in the thread. That made a very effective water trap for any rain that fell on the closed hatch, so the loader would always get a shower when he had to open his hatch from the inside! No idea whether this was a feature of an early or late turret version, but it sure stuck in memory ...

Hi PzAufkl
Glad you like the thread - it's a bit of the missing knowledge on the M41. As far as I know, the loaders hatches were the same design through out - it's just that some had the splashguard & some didn't - not sure why that was. Now that you mention the water trap, it does look like that would happen, I've been lucky when aboard M41's either being a dry day or in a hangar.
