Just seen this too Leong! Still split between this or the T-90 for my second modern AFV. Hope they don't rehash the Leo or type 10 MF.

Still an odd offering, why not a T-34 or VVSS sherman? Nice to see a new kit, but would of like to seen mentioned or perhaps a British WWII era.

Any chance it's a static? Don't see any electronics or drive in pics.

The first image, if you look closely at the silhouette image of the Abrams, you can see that it says "Display Model". Although, judging from the parts displayed (torsion bars, metal suspension arms, and metal road wheels) a Full Option version should hopefully be not far off.

I don't have your dilemma because I already have a T-90 sitting on my shelf!

I read on FB that the RC Abrams Kit will follow shortly after this static "display model" release. The "buzz" at TamiyaCon 2006, which I attended, was that a 1/16 RC Abrams was in the works. Just took 11 plus years to get to market. Anyway, Mr Tamiya felt honored that the local OC US Marines brought along one of their Abrams M1A1 to display during TamiyaCon 2006.

Similar to others, I wish Tamiya would concentrate on the more unusual tanks such as a Churchill, Maus, Matilda, Cromwell, JS3 etc. To keep releasing models that are already out their is a bit disappointing. I suppose the JGSDF and the Panzer LANG were new models so I suppose I should shut up. The development time for this of 11 years is perhaps the answer - Tamiya were too slow and events overtook them. Anyway, I have so many Abrams now of 1/48,1/35,1/16 & 1/12th scale that this one will be at the back of the queue for me. Will be a nice model though I'm sure. Price similar to the Leo 2A6 I guess?

Cheers

I like the modern but it looks awkward fighting against ww 2 era tanks at Danville.

As much as some would say there already is an rc Abrams available, it is not a Tamiya, and certainly they are not up to the same standard. Leopard 2 is a fine example of this as well. Tamiya's is amazing.

Good morning!

When will you start accepting pre-orders?

The RC Abrams will follow the static kit release, similar to the Type 10 launch, at least that is the word on Facebook.

Agreed! And Joe would know, he has done a really nice HL Abrams. Can't have to many Abrams, so that is a non-issue.

And as for AAF Danville, now is the time to add a modern battle field for all the Cold War Era and Modern Tanks to fight on.

Model The Battle for Fallujah City, a fight that has been going for about 14 years now. And or do "Thunder Run Blitzkrieg Battles" with dozens of modern RC IR Tanks operating at full speed and clashing over a bare sand packed playing field. Just add a few Iraq or other combatants burnt out AFVs for props. Sounds like colossal fun. Like some of the L.A. Tank guys have said on FB, this model is a game changer!

Below my x- HL Abrams M1A2. "Lizzy is the new TC.

We did this kinda battle last year when the DAK guys visited San Diego, our field is kinda infinite in size. We used a nearly half footbal size area of "open desert" and had a 1968 style israeli style attack of line on line until we met in the middle and duked it out at close range. Was pretty cool. I wana do that again when we have a big enough group.
We are hoping that evetually we can have modern only tank battles unless you are some 3d world country fieldinf shermans or something.. Modern only would be 3 hits each. If mixed with old stuff then modern go full heavy class.
i was really hopping for an m60. Cant believe nobody has done that one. Looking forward to ludwigg releasing the m48.

IMHO Tamiya missed their chance when Fury came out. They could have redone the top half of an existing kit to make a real ez8 and get the fury liscense and thye would have sold like hotcakes. I probabaly would have bought two of a kit like that. Making an ez8 is alot of work right now any way you go.

Mr Tamiya passed away the other day. Very sad day in our hobby industry, he was 57 I think.

I was really surprised to see this Abrams kit pop up on FB. Back around 04/05 I converted a Tamiya 1/35 model kit to RC using the twin motor transmission kit they offer. Right after that I remember Tamiya released an RC version! Now it's cool to see the larger 1/16 model issued.

Looks like my Tamiya Leo2 and all the extras I have for it will be going on sale soon. I settled in the Leo because at the time it was the only modern tank. I know a lot of y'all like the WWII stuff and some even served your countries on or around them. I am 36 and was a tank mechanic in the US Army so this is my dream come true as well as some of my fellow buddies. Cannot wait to hear the full option sounds.
