Thanks to a Valentine's Day gift from my wife, I'm going to build a screen accurate Fury.

I was already going to do an WW2 accurate Easy 8, but now, I find myself in possession of a Life Miniatures War Daddy figure, and a set of Peddinghaus 1/16 Fury decals.

So, is there a board with the right M4A2 diesel engine sound?

And, strangely enough, with a new arrival today, I have enough Sherman's to make the whole platoon, minus the LT.

But while Fury realy is an m4a2 in the movie it played a standard US M4a3 so to be screen accurate you would need to build it as an A3 with the ford GAA.

True. And with stowage, you can't tell onscreen. I wouldn't need to convert the Taigen upper hull. So does the IBU have the GAA?

Oh yes the IBU has the continental, the GAA and the dual Detroit diesels. But not the Chrystler multibank of the A4 or the Diesel version of the aircraft engine of the terminated A6 program.

Im working on this same project. Putting a taigen 76 on a Tamiya chassis to build an ez8. Doing mine just to sell it. They are quick fun projects compared to the long involved builds I usually do. Heck, I have like 6 builds going on right now any way LOL.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read (the making of the movie is very interesting) during the filming an engine expired and the remainder was finished with another tank... using both engine sounds during the film?

Since the film is/was about a WWII Easy Eight just getting the basics correct (like track type, machine gun positions and other props) I don't think you'll be criticized on sound... which half here wouldn't know the difference anyway.

I never heard that. I have a military vehicle magazine from my other hobby (1:1) that covered making the movie and the behind the scenes of coregraphing tank maneuvers and such as well as picking out all the flaws from how real US Army tank units battled to how they were portrayed. It never mentioned the FURY failing. Shots of it from beginning to end appear in the article. The tank Murder Inc was never a running tank. It has a german round through the back corner of it and was just a rolling prop beign towed for scenes like when its turret poped off.

I am very very very green at the Sherman Variants. I am going to attempt to build an EZ8, thanks to Rich for some pre advice.
I found this article to educate me a little on some of the Shermans. Many of you already know this info.

...just to point out that magazines can be wrong...yes, a prop tank was used for the scene where “Murder Inc’s” turret was blown off...it was a non-running lower with fibreglass turret...however a running tank was also used...note the direct-vision hoods on the “runner”....

Yeah, actually for the movie that unit was to be using the A3E8 but, in the actual movie they used an M4A2E8 for most of the external shots. It broke down and they substituted an M4 (105) HVSS which was modified with a 76mm gun turret for some scenes.

To each his own but... a Ford engine sound would be fine.

I'll get the IBU with the diesel. If I change my mind, and decide to do an A3, I'll use the IBU in the M10.

The real on screen tank was an M4A2E8, It once was painted to be a Korean war Canadian vehicle


Also another detail that %100 of people who make Fury miss is that the two swing arms on the right hand side center are skeletonized



It's one of those very minor details that nutty sherman fans like myself would notice,

Other than that the M4A2 rear engine deck and exhaust manifolds are found on shapeways, The most difficult part is tracking down all the crew equipment to drape and clutter the sides with.

I'v been trying to find good shots, but it's hard to tell. Are both Murder, Inc and Lucy Sue low bustle turrets?

Yes, Murder inc is actually an M4A4, which also has a low bustle turret w/ early pattern mantlet.

This will be amazing to see screen accurate tanks... especially a whole tank platoon. Something I'll appreciate seeing. Most would just paint FURY on the barrel of an M4 105MM or stick a 17 pounder barrel in one and call it a Firefly.

Nice squad there man. Just need one more for a whole platoon. Do you have unit markings and tank numbers on them all from the same unit?
Ive wanted to do that to mine and so far, none have come out the same unit lol.

Im just curios again, why do you want to make an M4A2 if you want a screen accurate Fury which was an M4a3E8.
My point is this, they were portraying a US Army unit that used A3s. They used an A2 as a movie prop to portray an A3. Movies do things like this all the time, take something and make it something else. The overhead shots of Fury were C'G'ed to make the engine deck look like an A3. No where other than the rear hull slope could you tell it was an A2. In all fact of the matter the "Character" of Fury was an M4a3.
Its your tank and please don't be insulted by my fact poking, Im just throwing this out there as thoughts.
IF you really want an A2E8 which is cool because nobody builds them, why not build the real tank that "Played" Fury in themovie. Down to the registration number and other minor stenciling. That would be really unique and cool.

By the way, I have a shapeways engine deck here Im cleaning up. Man their stuff is crap. The prints are so porous and course and mine came with two lines scribbed diagonally through it like it was a bad print. I puttied a lot of it and have yet to sand it. The M50 mantlet pieces I have are on like the 10th coat of primer after minor putty covering. That crap shapeways prints with just sucks to all hell. The frosted ultra detail is the only material worth using. All the rest has a sandpaper texture.

I think you're right Rich. And, by making what they were intended to be, that will save me from having to extend Murder Inc into an A4.

Since I already bought an IBU last night, I'll use it in the M10. I'll put the Clark from the M10 in Fury.

Everything is finally together. If all goes to plan, the build begins tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I was unable to locate a set of Impact rubber T84 track, so, I'll have to use the kit track.
