Default M3A1 Half Track

Started getting ready to saw open the doors and armor visor on my Torro cab, then had a brilliant idea.

I'm only going to use the Torro chassis and running gear. Have the El Mod M16 board, and a M3A1 conversion for the Trumpeter kit.

Looking good so far. Wish I could post pics of my pair, but the great Photobucket robbery has left me without my archives
Its not a hard conversion, I did mine patterned off the 21st Century 1/18 toy plus some pics of the real thing in a few museums for the fine details.

I have Hunnicutt's halftrack book and the Squadron Walk Around. And looks like the only "hard" part is going to be removing the M16 details and locating tabs on the armored box.

I'm going to have to figure out something for troops. A load of 1/18 guys may look too out of scale. Maybe a few for somaller guys, but I don't want a load of munchkins.

Great. My xacto chisle blades are the wrong size for my handle. Too big.

No. I'll take a look. The Trumpeter parts are so much easier to work with. The Torro plastic doesn't cut very well.

My plan is to build a small compartment under the troop floor for the board. I have a couple 8ohm micro speakers from adafruit, I'll probably put them in the fuel tanks. And I plan to fit the battery in the engine compartment. Trumpeter kindly supplies working hinges for the cab, including the hood.
