Panther ausf F.
Hey folks, the second new project. A Tamiya based panther f, using the Taigen upper and turret. She's got some Taigen steel wheels mixed in and Taigen metal tracks. Sponsons have been removed for that aggressive late war/1946 look, anti aircraft armour on turret roof and rear deck, scratch built spare track hangers, tools and c hooks moved to the rear. I'm toying with adding skirt hangers and skirts. The Taigen recoil will be converted to servo operation, hidden battle system added and to top it off will be a tk60 or tk40 control board

Great build Tom!!!

Looks great!
Did you use Aber or Voyager photo etch for the shackles and the gun cleaning case?
Also, I was wondering if you've used Impact tracks. If so, what are your thoughts on those tracks vs the Taigen metal tracks?

Hey Philpat, the barrel cleaning tunes aber as is the shackles (I think). The tracks are Taigen, qualities excellent but the fault with the Taigen tracks persists even with the Tamiya sprockets. The tooth holes are slightly too narrow, so you need grind the sprocket teeth slightly.

Tom,
Awesome Panther F. Love the brass details! Curious why you'd use a Clark 40 or 60 on this size of tank? They have a lot of amps 60A (TK60) that seems like a lot for these motors? Are there other functions on the TK40 or 60 not available on TK22? I'm kinda of a noob when it comes to Clark boards.
Thanks,
Bob

The maximum current is 60a but you need to add higher gauge wiring to the holes on the board for that.
Tk60 sits happily in normal 1/16 tanks, I use them in my King tiger, Cromwell and t55.
They do have features the tk22 doesn't, ability to use up 8 channels eliminating some of the funky stick combos, far better sound, more powerful sound amplifier, infintly better sound, more lighting options, can run on 3s, clutch function etc etc.
Tk40 is the same footprint as the tk22 but does a lot of what the tk60 does (including 3s support) and also has the high frequency drive fets which mean much smoother low speed running and control and no more motor whine.

The el mod does many things well, the config is really nice, the sounds great, the motor drive seems very smooth. However it's expensive, I despise the fact you can't fully turn off the momentum and simulations, recoils so so and not a patch on clarks realrecoil, I'm not a fan that it doesn't usenstandard plugs for the battle system and some other bits.
The only thing that lets the clark tk60 down imo is the slow speed control and the ir range. With low ratio gears it's fine, however. The IR range is solved with the osram high power IR led.
The tk60 sbus has better low speed control, removes the funky controls without mixes. The TK40 and TK80 have the best low speed control of any board I've seen.
