They just released their new tool 1/35 version. It has had raving reviews and a lot of excitement around it from what i've seen.. (I bought one myself, it's pretty nice actually) maybe Tamiya took that as "people really like this, maybe we should make a bigger one"...

I actually started to scratch one a few years back. It is a vehicle that saw service in Vietnam, Panama, and ODS. The paints schemes are too numerous to count. As a battler, the fast, light, tank destroyer types with small gun tubes are quite fun. I for one am excited.

Interesting choice. Not sure the 152mm Gun Launcher qualifies as a small gun tube?
Variants wise, Hunnicutts Sheridan has a host of proposed Sheridan variants - Sheridan Tank - Proposed Variants -
Will be interesting to see the crew figures - assuming they follow the 1/35 offering, and whether they supply the standard M2HB, or update it?

The more I think on this I'm leaning more to buying one. Just because I think it might just weird enough to warrant it.
The idea of a light tank that can move quickly might just be different enough to get me off WWII armor for a while.
I'm curious if they've developed a different set of gearboxes for these.

Yep I can think of quite a few vehicles I'd rather have but hey this one is def different.

I think it's cool. Odd choice, but cool.

I like the twin 25 mm version. It could be fun...

I would be really surprised if they copy the new 1/35th kit. If they do and include the figures and gun shields then I may seriously consider it, but I am not holding my breath.

hmmmmm........ interesting, i am having mixed feelings, interested to see if there is a different electronic package, gear boxes, elevation and rotation systems and finally; the final cost. definitely feeling something about it!

Agreed...... something a bit more mainstream...DEFINATELY need some soft-skinned vehicles like a BMP or a Bradley, etc....

Although always a new Tamiya is interesting…. The Sheridan????
I guess they were influenced by the 1/35 good sales, but 1/16 is other league.
I agree with many of you… it will be expensive and just a small tanks with a poor history at least for the crew that was fighting with them.
I wonder if Tamiya have anything against the great tanks, M48, M60… centurion (you have several version with an extra sprue)... Le clerc... they have vector designs for all them.
Even I could say a M41 well done! But the aluminum 551, wow or they are genius or I’m an idiot… or both options

If that is the tank then it looks very good. Nice detail from that picture. Looks like a possible working searchlight? I wonder if it will rock back with the recoil of the main gun firing?

I checked if it was a photo of the 1/35th model but didn’t find any similar picture. It is the same decals though.
What we could expect/hope with this model :
- working driver hatch
- anti-RPG net
- working searchlight
- improved MF/DMD with new functions (which ones ?)
- working MGM-51 (just kidding...)

What I would dream to get with that model :

- amphibious capability (quite unlikely)

By the way, I am already designing a 1/16 MGM-51 on Fusion 360 to 3D print a bunch of them...

More like lifting the front of the tank than rolling back.

Looks like they messed up one thing. The track pad actually have rubber on them. I've never seen a Sheridan that didn't have the rubber pads run all the way down to the metal.

No doubt big money! Someone on Amorama posted “tree fiddly thousand dollars”. If they mean 3 thousand then this will never sell. You could almost go for 1/6th at that price. Maybe they were joking?

I've seen (and own) the 1/35, that's not it. The tracks are the biggest giveaway, plus the 1/35 has different figures. Definitely looks like a 1/16 to me.

The above posted image's jpg is labeled "tamiya_56043_m551_sheridan_with_option_kit_94be29b 83766935d680cfc0bfbb04087c315ef12" and the model's tracks do have "rubber track pads" in place (see red track rectangle below).

Just guessing at a Tamiya list price of $1600.00 USD and a AAF Museum purchase price in the range of $800.00 to $900.00 plus UPS Insured Delivery Cost. That is what I am budgeting for, anyway.

John

While waiting for this little tank to arrive in my workshop, I’m spending my time with Fusion 360...
The design of the detailled model is going on, first step before designing a model dedicated for the 3D printing.
As you can see, the tail section is more or less a guess work regarding the lack of good references on the internet. I have begun the work on the cartridge. I must confess it is quite fun to 3D build this missile..:-)
