New from Taigen: 1/72nd scale IR battle tanks!! Pictures!!
Hey tankers!
Ok so what is 1/72nd scale, RC, and is infrared? Taigen Battle tanks!! No joke guys! Others may have left the IR scene but we are going nowhere. We have been working on this for over a year now and it is made just for battlers, but on a smaller scale! IR tankers, this one is for you!
Yes one of them there isn't painted, we aren't 100% done yet, but samples will be here for me to play with hopefully for the NY Toy Fair and hopefully the WRAM show! Elevation, turret rotation, simulated recoil, are of course working. I hope you really enjoy this guys, this one wasn't supposed to be announced for a while but looks like things are a bit ahead of schedule

I'll look forwrd to trying them out at WRAM.
The original DML 1/72 RC tank from 15 years ago is what got me into RC and modeling as an adult. Those had no rotation, let alone elevation or battle capabilities. I have a lot of hopes for something like this (I have yet to try VS' version) since a serious battlefield could be build on a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood.

It will be interesting to see the degree of minatuarization that is required to fit into a scale that small - it could be a good solution for rained-out outdoor battles, or allow more opportunities for permanent indoor battle spaces to be built.

Yes these 72nd scale tanks have two distinct advantages compared to our 1/16th scale tanks: size and price. The size factor allows people to have battles on everything from a 4x8 to a desktop Just like you guys said this would be nice for permanent battle scenes. There is TONS of 72nd scale stuff out there, I'm sure a battlefield for these guys could be set up that would be stunning to behold. Price is also another factor. $55-60 is going to be around our target price for these guys. They are a cheap way to get into the IR battle scene without dropping a few hundred dollars and some time on a 1/16th tank. You can get a few for the price of one 1/16th tank and would be ready to battle in minutes.
With that size and price in mind you can battle almost anywhere, quickly, and have a lot of fun doing so. I really feel these guys will be a hit and I cant wait to see mass battles with them. Heck I can see myself visiting Danville at some point and bringing a bunch down to play with I really hope they are here in time for the two shows, I have been itching over them for a while!

I'm not sure about armor, but I know with aircraft 1/72 is the most popular and best selling scale of all, so it makes sense that it would have serious detail levels. You guys know that whether it's static or RC, we modelers tend to be pretty demanding when it comes to what we want in our models. The model companies pay attention and want to maximize profits so I think the detail will keep getting better in anything 1/72 scale.

I like it. certainly a good way for the budget conscious to get into the hobby. Plus you can make one hell of an indoor battlefield with only limited space required. And as Erik stated there are tons of 72 scale props out there. could have whole artillery battallions and everything for realism. being indoors you could make some real nice battle ground back ground sound tracks with incoming rounds and everything.

Could gut one or two and throw it in some stationary emplacements as well. That was awesome when the VS stuff came out. Gutted it and you had IR Tamiya/Academy RC 1/25 panther/Jagdpanther.

I should have my samples in a week or two depending on how the boat floats. They were sent yesterday so hopefully it shouldnt be too long. As soon as I get them I will destroy at least one or two to see how they work. These tanks will be very highly detailed and of good quality I can say that now. I will open some up and see what kinda room we have in them to play with. I doubt there is room for servos (servo recoil) but you never know right? Maybe we can fit a 1/35th Clark board in there.... does anyone have one they can provide me some dimensions for?

Yes these guys do have battle systems built in and will have separate transmitters than what we use. BUT, who is happy with stock? We all know that will be the next question asked, might as well tackle it first I might be a bit difficult to fit things in there but you never know! I'll make sure dimensions are provided for the modders.

Yes this will be a great way to get more people into the hobby too. I think hobby shops will be excited to see these as well. 72nd scale is a great seller and combine that with RC and IR and you got yourself a winner. I've got a little movie of them shooting and battling, it is pretty neat. Not great quality though, I'll just make some better ones next week.

The end of the year is what we are planning for, hopefully earlier if we are lucky Plans are still on track and the bossman is actually showing them at the Astra Show today. The hobby shops and dealers are very excited about the tanks, I know I am as well!

Hey guys! Just wanted to give an update on these! They are looking to arrive around early-mid November! Check out the Abrams We will be releasing them in series such as Desert Storm (the first one), World War II, and more! Two team battle system, 4 players total, however odds you wish to make it. The tanks will be powered off a 1 cell lipo and charge off the Tx, which also contains the speaker to make it easier to battle.
More soon!

That's awesome! Any idea what kinda price range we're looking at? How small are they? Would love to see a video of a couple showing size and some battling. They work okay on carpet? I have been thinking about the Tamiya 1/35 but this may be a very viable option!

Hi Hope you use the Tamiya code in the battle system , if you do can see these being very popular , already thinking could use the turret elevation and turn in a grant. could also adapt it for other things .
Now for the other part would be great for showing kids how to drive and fight tanks indoors get them hooked into modelling . I would buy some just to play with the grandkids (might even buy a train set to set out with them)
regards pete
