Default King Tiger review--yep it came today.

I will tell you now...go get something to drink because I have alot to say and pictures to cover.

First off 10:30am I became a owner of a King Tiger..

Get her home and took it out of the large box.... nice... very large indeed!

The tank is BIG guys.... BIG..comparison in the pictures..

side by side with my Tiger I

Ok size of tanks do matter...

now it DWARFS my 1/35 scale King Tiger

and compared with the 1/18 and 1/16 Panzer IV and T34-85

It's the King of the Tanks in my collection..

Now for the warm and fuzzies and the dank and crap..

let's start with the Dank and Crap first..

Straight out of the box the damn machine gun was broken off!!!!!
the armored covers that protect the periscopes for the driver and machine gunner were off the tank..one is missing completely.

I SG'ed the machine gun back on...and will do some extra glueing later to make sure this will not happen again.. and I can order the piece that is missing or make one...no big deal..

Things I don't like was the start up sound is LOUD...let's say It will give you a headache on start up loud..
turning down the volume helps but still it's louder than the machine gun or the main cannon firing... not a plus here. [&o]
Also test fired the main gun today..this really sucked more than the broken part..it shot about 3 feet... Thank God for the spare gun I do have

turning is done slowly....why might you ask..the KT turns by using skid steering unlike my other tanks .. to me this is a major Dank and Crap thing

The paint looks good with a hint of fade until you see a couple of globs of paint...not sure that's a bad or good..
Now the corners of the turret was a suprise..you can see into the turret!!

Also noted...a MUST UPGRADE..looking under the tank..and owners of the Academy Panther and Jagdpanther know what I'm about to say... there are no sponsons there to keep crap out of the insides of the tank.. so you will need to makes some to keep the bad out.

In the Neutral zone was the noise the tracks makes...not sure if this is a plus or negative but if you ever heard a KT moving it does give you that sounds on smaller scale...
so Neutral I will be..

Now for the Good and warm and fuzzies

This tank moves with grace...no kidding and it looks down right the part in the yard

the battery is a aa 6 cell 7.2V battery..1500 Ah NiMH and the really good news is a standard size 6 C cell battery will fit..
this I already have done
The smoker works very very well...easy to fill..
now for some other pictures and the video..get ready for the warm and fuzzies..

http://media.putfile.com/King-Tigers-first-time-out

Over all the tank is good w/ a few things I could do without...and with a few good mods it should be an Excellant tank for your collections
UPDATE!!!!!

The King Tiger can spin with 1 track forward and 1 backwards..'super spin'

The issue was the trim on the controller was not set and that horrible noise is now gone...

So now the KT seems much better...a bargain that is a diamond in the rough!!

suspension is very stiff I have noted.

One of THE best videos of an R/C tank I've seen. The model looks "settled" at all times, the main gun isn't bouncing around, really solid looking, excellent....I want!!! Thanks for the honest reporting.
Don't recall seeing the turret gaps on the other pictures doing the rounds. Could there be some sort of manufacturing mistake there perhaps? Will go back and review those, but excellent review. Thank You.

Yep, had a look see and sure enough, the gaps are on the other pictures too. Mmmm.....nothing a spot of filler won't sort!! Next!!!!

My question would be do you think it is worth what you had to pay to get it.???I like the looks of the over-all tank, like the longer gun
(makes them look a lot mean-er).Is the tank as pink looking in person as it looks in the photo's. BIGMIG

P.S. sounds like when these get out all over in the market place there will be a big price drop for this tank. From your discription they are lacking in over-all quality compaired to the HL tanks.Just a guess here, time will tell.

Forget my first post the video is working now... One thing that clicking sound coming from the tracks sounds to me like the front drive sprocket is slipping in the tracks poping skipping slots... the KT don't have a track tensioner does it?

Pretty fruity Turbo.

It looks the part plowing through the grass.

I'd like one but I reckon Mrs Migger would make me sell my beloved Tiger 1 first[X(][X(][X(][X(]

Finaly some good pictures! Thanks!
Question: Does the upper hull go all the way down BEHIND the sideskirts? If some skirt panels are moved to simulate damage can you see the sides of UPPER hull? I'm realy curios about this.

I think the quality is fine and after a few months I believe should get better..

the missing part and the machine gun was the only problems I had..both can be fixed.

but I would wait on the price to drop down to around $150 or lower

Tracks tension is really better than my Tiger I..and the answer is NO it does not have a tensioner.

Excellent video, great pics A+ review! I was encouraged that it ran as good as it did in your yard, my Tiger couldn't even have done that when it had platic tracks, without throwing a track! I can tell what you mean by the engine sound by your video, i have a couple ideas to help that! How many days did it take to arrive after they received your payment??? Wait 6 months to save 50 bucks na, the price includes shipping and these units are going to get snached up!

pattoncommander you have to e-mail Mato Toys, go on there web site under the contact us section. And they will send you a Paypal invoice $199 bucks, that includes shipping, at least that is what they are charging us in the US.

Was that Matotoys Canada Inc that has the KT?
Is the one color really that shade of pink or purpleish? I would repaint it first off after filling in the holes mentioned in the turret and makeing the sponson floors

Hi TurboBearCat

How do you find the quality of the KT's Plastic track compared to the HL?

So far no problems...so I can't say anything negative about the tracks..but so far I like them.

I am thinking about doing the same on the repaint...maybe to match the smaller KT I own.

all the ones I have seen are the the same color.
