Hi MAC

Id did see some action, at least in East front. Here is good course to dig information of it:

[link]http://www.alanhamby.com/tiger.html[/link]

And here is other (in germany):

[link]http://www.tiif.de/index.php?sid=75a303751abb1e048e73a5cb01dc42c2[/link]

And here is one, with picture:

But, if I remember correct, those storage bins were fitted in field, not in factory. And survived Tigers were later fitted with "standard" boxes in field.

And here is one good picture of one

RR

PS: I might have better pictures, if these links does not give enought information.

There is an after parts market kit, but look around the UK for the same kit. Visit here and scroll down looking for "1/16 Scale Conversion Kits Initial Prod Tiger I - 1942 Leningrad!": http://www.backyardarmor.com/New%20Main.htm

The captured Tiger at Gorky Park was the only one fitted with side bins that I'm aware of. There are lots of good photos of it on the net and in some books, many of which are available online.

How detailed do you plan to make the tank? there are considerable differences from a January/February production Tiger (as Tamiya and Heng Long represent) compared to the initial production tanks. The one thing that nobody I know of has modeled is the mirrored track. Will you be the first?

As far as Im aware the inital production Tigers all served on the Leningrad front (there were 10 of them, if my memory serves me right), and were all painted in panzer grey - though I guess they could have been whitewashed in the field once winter set in.

www.tankzone.co.uk also do a conversion kit

Mac, send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll send you what I've got. Tiger 100 was of the 502nd was the only one with side bins, it was also whitewashed so it should make for a great build. Check out Jonesis' build on HobbyHavoc too. He's a master modeller.

There were over 30 Initial Production Tigers. The first 10 went to the 502nd, the rest with the 501st for service in Tunisia. There was at least 1, maybe 2 or 3 that served with the 503rd too.
