I am looking for some information and guidance. I have been involved in RC scale aircraft for over 30 years now and I want to start in the RC tank hobby. I live in central New Jersey. I'm looking for a club or clubs in the area. I also would like to get an idea of which type of tank is more prevalent. I see that you can use airsoft or IR setups. I'm thinking of starting in the 1/16 scale. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Bill,

Well....you are in the right place, at the right time...LOL. You are very fortunate to have a core group of RC tankers in yor backyard here in norhtern NJ. NEAD is a yahoo based RC tank club with about 110 members. You just missed our club battleday this past Saturday in PA at Brett's new battlefield. Or next club event is in Danville VA at the famous AAF Tank Musuems into RC tank battlfield. What are you doing during the first weekend in November??? I will PM you my contact information and post a link for the club's homepage. This is a fun hobby loaded with great guys who have a wealth of information that they share freely. We all want to see your RC and wish you the best. Here are a few pix from some past NEAD events. Some battles were in Westwood (near Paramus) and some in Waldwick (near Ramsey). We have also had them in VA and PA. We run 1/16 Tamiya, Heng Long and other IR battle tanks based on the Tamiya infrared battle system.

Here is a link to some videos on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/thecommandernj Enjoy! Bob, NEAD CO

Welcome,

To add to what bob stated, since you are involved in rc aircraft then you know the expense, I would point you to the tamiya brand tanks. They are a kit, and top of the line in quality and warranty. They are 1/16 and also have a ton of aftermarket parts and upgrades.

Cheers
Wade

I am not far from you, in Bayonne. I have built all kinds of tanks over the past few years, ranging from HL's to Hooben and tamiya kits, and also upgraded them extensively. The choice is yours on how to go about it, as all of them can be made into very good runners. tamiya offers a much better OTB package, along with many aftermarket upgrades. www.ETOarmour.com has many of them available. Now, HL is a toy grade or entry level tank,a nd has to be upgraded to do IR battles with tamiya tanks. However, systems like ElMod make this a level playing field. Available here www.armorcreation.weebly.com
In the end, it is really up to the individual the route they take. By the way, Tamiya kits are available from www.aaftankmuseum.com in the gift shop Hope this information welp.

The secret is to NOT answer the phone when leaving for gametime or a play day. Unless your a life saving team member on call, I would not answer the phone when I have plans.

Thanks for the great welcome. I hope to meet you soon. I have too many obligations until after Turkeyday. After that I'm good to go. I'm getting a lot of great information here, which will let me make a better decision on what to purchase
