NEW 1/16TH T55.
Don't know if this has been posted before, apologies if it has. Just seen in Military Modelling magazine that a chinese company, arkmodels ( www.ark models.com ) are selling a 1/16th Russian T55A. Don't know much about it (anyone any other info?) or how easy it would be to r/c but its a nice change to our current fare of tanks. The couple of photo's in the mag look good though. Checked the website but could see no reference to it and my chinese is about as good as my martian! perhaps someone else would have more luck. This company make r/c ships mainly. If anyone is interested the email is [email protected].

arkmodels site is down, well, one of those stupid advertising sites at the moment. [link=http://www.mbsa.net.au/ARK%20models.htm]This site[/link] might be them, they seem to do a lot of ships.
I for one would absolutely love a T-55, price depending, saves me scratchbuilding it (the turret is my major concern)

Really? A T-54 or 55 would be nice.

That is Hoobens new T-55A. Try this link. [link=http://www.hooben.com/t-55a-english.html]Hooben T-55A[/link] As you can see, its offered as a full option kit with features, detail & quality level similar to Tamiya. For those of you guys excited about another Chinese tank, don't expect to pay HL prices.
I happen to live in the neighborhood & will have the chance to see this new tank in the coming weeks.

Hi Chuck and thanks for the clarification. The T-55 looks good and I'd be interested in seeing the price. Maybe this is a sign that more variables may be forthcoming. A T-62 would be great for cold war era. Wonder what kind of sound thet T-55 has for starting. That thing used a shotgun shell for starting and if someone didn't warn you when you hit the starter, you'd most likely come flying out of the hatch. [X(]

Bill,
Thought you of all folks would be happy to see that!
I failed to mention that they, based on earlier discussions, are focused on developing models that are not your typical subjects, especially towards what sell in the new hot local & export markets such as Russia. Would not be surprised to see some other Sov & PLA armor down the road as well as a few "allied" tanks to fight against. One only has to look at the potential of these markets which is huge.

Hmmm.....
Who'll be the first to make Daskal's 'Beast' and his oddball crew: Koverchenko, Golikov, Kaminski, and poor Samad.
(yea, they call the one in the movie a T-62, but its an Israeli Ti-67, which is an Israeli-modded T55)
From GlobalSecurity (http://www.globalsecurity.org/milita...rael/tiran.htm)
" In order to allow for greater standardization in it's armor corps, the IDF initiated a conversion program. The captured tanks were re-engined and re-gunned (with the standard 105mm gun used in the Centurion and Patton MBT's). Chief was the several hundred captured T-54/T-55 tanks that were taken and modified into the Tiran 4 (T-54) and Tiran 5 (T-55), called Ti-67 (Tank Israeli-1967) in the west. The main difference between the two versions is the main gun armament. The Tiran 4 having a 100 mm main gun and the Tiran 5 having a 105 mm main gun.
The Tiran 5 conversion includes: hollow cast turret with numerous IDF details cast in, empty bustle cast to the turret, IDF modified loaders and drivers hatch, 105mm gun tube. 60mm mortar and spare round box, commanders and loaders m.g. mounts, correct machine guns, .30 caliber and correct ammo boxes. Turret side storage box, four IDF jerry can racks molded empty, five IDF jerry cans, separate, rear hull storage bin with medical box attached, IDF infantry comm. box. Late pattern fuel cells, accurate pattern oil storage box, two fender storage boxes, IDF Pattern driving lights and IDF pattern mud flaps with "rubber" dust guards molded separately. "

If someone would release a Centurian, that would put an interesting spin on war gaming scenarios on more than a few battlefields. Perhaps Hooben will be the one to take us out of the WW2 era...
Here's a teaser I have in my files from a past discussion.

For info, cost of this kit is about £120 or $220 or 150 euro's pre r/c apparently. The item suggests that includes metal sprckets/wheels but cannot be confirmed as it was only a sample kit observed.

"Beast" is quite a movie. Lots of great internal in action views that you don't normally see. Would be an interesting model to make.
That movie really stereotyped the Russian communist "leadership" and showed it the way it was/is. [:'(]
Got to dislike T-55s in Berlin. First one I ever saw up close was through my M-48 gunsight at 100 yards. The crosshair in the reticle trained on the turret ring covered the ENTIRE tank [:@] Believe me, that's a VERY small target[&:]

'The Beast' sounds like a good one to pull off the shelf and watch very soon. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought it for $5.00 at WM. Not your conventional war movie, but based on events that could have happened.

Yeah i caught that description, I think they pulled it off a tamiya website, even the functions of the tank's 'revving ' function is exactly like a tam pershing.
Maybe they stuck a tam's pershing eectronics into this beast?

Please keep us updated on this company and its products. It is great that you are in China and can report first hand what is going on.
Probably the electronics in this model will not be so hot, a bit like the HL stuff, however it would be great to install a Tamiya Leo2 drive train and electronics into it.
The main thing is that most of the hard work is done in that one has a good base model to work from.
Cheers
Alan.

Great thing about the T-55, this tank can be configured into so many various models...it leaves the door wide open for modelling. The basic shape is there, including the hard to scratch make turret without too many revisions.
