Battle damage how to???
hi guys, i have setup my Tamiya KT now and over xmas i want to paint it. I am going for some battle damage, and was wondering how to create twisted metal, bullet holes, shell marks. I have removed some of the side skirting and want to dent and rough up some more of it, can anyone help me or explain how to 'bend/twist' plastic to look like damaged metal. I will also like to make some rust, but dont really know how. I have thought about getting some steel filings from the metal work shop at college and mixing it with paint/glue, would this give a texture? or has someone else have any idea on how to rust up my KT.
cheers

RE: Battle damage how to???
A search will turn up a ton of "how tos". I bend my plastic fenders first by thinning them with sandpaper and then heating them up with either my soldering iron or a hair dryer.
For making rust, I've used rust colored paint mixed with some baking soda. It's too bright though, add some black and or red till you get the right look. Having said that, what's there to rust besides the exhaust? The tanks were well painted and didn't last that long in combat to get all rusty.

Battle/field damage isn't really difficult. Use a Dremmel for shot pockholes and glancing riccochet gouges...small drill for mg holes in sheet metal like track guards, tools etc.
Not too much to rust on an active tank....but..shovels, pry bars, jacks, spare track teeth and tow cables should have some rust...plenty of heavy boots stomping on them as well as field use, so mud and lack of paint is the key there. Rust-All is excellent and very easy to use, leaves a very realistic finish. Where bullet strikes are shown on thick metal, show a bit of splash and mg holes, show a litttle silver or steel paint in the holes. Heat the fenders and just bend them a bit. Figure how the damage would have accured....backing up into something or something caught in the track to bend it in or out. Here's a couple Tiger examples. Missing fender parts are normal.
