RX18 IR Upgrade in progress - Need some help
I'm installing the RX18 IR upgrade kits we got from RCCOMMAND in my t-34 and my buddy's tiger.. I got his tiger running, all functions are working but I'm not getting the muzzle flash from the high voltage flash when I push the K button. Should this flash anytime you push K button or does it need another IR tank running to flash? I can't seem to figure out why it's not working.. I tried my flash unit also but still nothing.. Anybody ??

RE: RX18 IR Upgrade in progress - Need some help
so is there a specific part# for this diode ?
Also in the wiring harness that plugs into CN2 IR port has a small 2 prong male plug attatched to it and the harness that plugs into CN3 Gun Flash port has a 2 prong female plug attatched to it.. Does the male 2 prong plug from the IR harness plug into the 2 prong female plug from the gun flash port?

Well I did the diode rectifier mod and it's working.. The muzzle flash/recoil is working now with the left stick up..
I just have to finish making a new harness for the turret functions .. Since it's a Trumpeter T-34 the factory wiring is different than HengLong so I have some wire tracing/ splicing/soldering to do..

Ok I got both tanks all finished and everything is working.. The Trumpeter was a little more work because of the different wire color codes..
I made a quick video to show how the HL IR works.. You'll see after 4 hits from my buddy's Tiger the T34 does this little dance lol and then shuts off.. When the tank gets hit it sounds an explosion sound and shakes.. The high voltage flash adds some realism to it..
[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mm4way2euGk]IR test Video[/link]
Overall the conversion was fairly simple .. The hardest part was figuring out where to mount the IR emitter on the T-34.. I made one of the existing holes larger on the gun mantlet and pressed fit the emitter there.. Another problem I ran into was the factory trumpeter barrel.. Because it's thin the high voltage flasher wouldn't fit down the barrel so I had to cut a length of an airsoft barrel i had here to make a new barrel.. Because the the airsoft barrel is the same O.D all the way across it didn't fit properly in the mantlet like the factory barrel which is tapered up at that section.. To fix this I cut a piece of the factory barrel where it slides in the mantlet and slid my airsoft barrel into that using it as a shim.. Then I glued it in.. It's not scale but it works and the barrel sits in tight now.
New barrel with shim
Emitter to the right of the barrel..

Thanks Blitz [8D] It was my first IR conversion so it was a learning process.. I did a little tweaking of the IR beam.. I cut short pieces of straw and wrapped them with black tape. Without them the IR beam is a little too wide..

I go to Home depot and by the packages of small brass line tubbing connetors and cut them to fit!

Do you have any photos of how you hooked up the IR system? My flash is not working. Everything else is. I am using RX18 Full Firing Mod step but it seems to show only the install of the Diode on the board itself other than instruction on how to install the plug outside of the board.

RE: RX18 IR Upgrade in progress - Need some help
I just did the same conversion to my old t-34 (which was already HL Rx13 + airsoft).
Now it's IR with muzzle flash, plus it has the BSU IA card and it can battle against Heng Long, Matorro and Tamiya tanks at the same time.
I am just waiting a new speaker to add together with a 3,5W amplifier to boost the rather different Rx18 sound (I have two RX18 boards: one has the same soundset as the older heng long tanks, the other has a different set which resembles the VStank 1/24 series).

RE: RX18 IR Upgrade in progress - Need some help
Hello Gentlemen,
I'm a newbie from Finland on this forum (and on RC tanks as well), so please accept my apologies for question for dummies (my age is 44 :-)
My question is simple - what accessories do I need to make my Trumpeter IR T34's compatible to battle against Heng Long IR battle tanks. I have some engineering skills, but instructions to apply the conversion are highly appreciated.
My special interest is to put a set of HL Stug III's (Sturms, they were provided for us Finns by Germans to stop the Russian invasion) accompanied by a (Trumpeter)T34's, which were captured from Russians by some brave Finns, to battle against a set of Russian T34's like in Tali-Ihantala 1944, when we denied the massive Russian invasion, which aimed for the occupation of the whole of our territory (as ordered by Stalin already in 1939).
I would highly appreciate any useful information concerning on the accessories needed and instructions what to do, to convert a Trumpeter T34 into a compatible IR battle with Heng Long IR tanks.
Cheers,
petteri

Thanks for Your information.
Is it really just the Rx18 board, wiring + I/R battle system I need to be compatible with HL? Would the High Voltage flash unit be of any good? How about accus, remote control unit - are those provided by Trumpeter compatible with RX18?
Cheers, petteri
