I use various shades of pastel chaulk ground into a powder and brushed on, followed by black wash paint in all the nooks and crannys. Then over coat with dull coat to seal (optional)
Look at photos of real tanks for the high wear areas and dry brush using gunmetal or silver paint. Also a quick way to do this is with a soft lead pencil. Search this forum also as there are a lot of great pictures of other tankers artwork

Maybe i'll do that too after doing the pencil tip trick
I was hoping to make it look dried muddy like in the Cologne Pershing
