RE: RADIO AND MOTOR SETUP FOR KYOSHO BLIZZARD DX
Hi drypipe,
I think using 2 separate ESC will work on a tank, since you're an airplane guy and I'm a heli guy. Im sure you can use the same stick to control 2 esc and mix it to control the steering by differentiating esc speed on each esc by the mix control feature.
It's done in the heli set-up, throttle servo and blade pitch servo are mixed/joined relatively, so that means you can control 2 esc in one stick, and the next step is mixing the rudder control to differentiate the signals on both esc thus slowing down or speeding up either servo to induce speed differential steering...

RE: RADIO AND MOTOR SETUP FOR KYOSHO BLIZZARD DX
Thanks. Ya, I did order that mixing box converter from Tower after all. It only cost $17.00 and this will allow me to use my 2ch Futaba Attack radio that is new and has been sitting around my apartment. I'll also save money on not getting that Sabertooth, unless I do get into a Hen Long tank upgrade in the future.
My next tracked vehicle project may be, hopefully, a Tamyia 1/16 T-34 tank! I do love the Russian Soviet tanks from WWII. I wish there were more R/C versions not to mention R/C Soviet fighters as well.
Now, time for that Stolichnaya vodka martini.
Molotov!

RE: RADIO AND MOTOR SETUP FOR KYOSHO BLIZZARD DX
I want to thank everyone in helping me reach a decision on how to approach this controll issue with my Kyosho DX! I have learned much about r/c tank control and where to buy if I need parts!
Thanks guys.
Happy Thanksgiving

I got my sabertooth today in the mail, nice little piece of equipment. It does not like AM radios though at all! My Futaba 4GWD wouldn't work at all with the sabertooth, but as soon as I tried an FM radio, no problems at all.

Futaba 4GWD will not work with the sabertooth? I'd email Dimension Engineering and ask what is the issue as to why their Sabertooth 2X10RC controller is not compatible with your Futaba AM TX model?
Is that the transmitter that is used by most r/c tankers for the Tamyia tanks as well?

RE: RADIO AND MOTOR SETUP FOR KYOSHO BLIZZARD DX
I tried troubleshooting it for some time. I disabled the sabertooth bec, checked wires, moved the receiver/antenna, checked xtals, everything. I then pulled a receiver out of one of my planes and tried my Optic 6 (FM with spectra) and it worked perfect. My 4GWD reciever and transmitter works fine in other models, just with servos...I tested a bunch of combinations, and all worked well. Only when I used the 4GWD with the sabertooth it freaked out. I left a voicemail with Tom from Dimension Engineering about it, we will talk about it on Monday and I'm not worried about it. I was just ripping my hairout for a bit trying to figure out what was wrong.

Just got off the phone with Tom from Dimension Engineering and explained the situation, he does believe there is an issue using the Sabertooth with AM frequency radios. At least channel 5 for sure (what I am using).

RE: RADIO AND MOTOR SETUP FOR KYOSHO BLIZZARD DX
Hey any pics of the sabertooth all hooked up in the DX? I'm still not 100% sure which unit I want to purchase. Either it will be th sabertooth, or that unit on eBay we mentioned earlier. Another thing.....anyone know where I can get a replacement body for my DX. The body on mine is in great shape, just whoever painted it must have been 12 because there is overspray all over. I'd really love on of the newer Blizzard bodies but I think they are just a little bit too short. Any ideas?

RE: RADIO AND MOTOR SETUP FOR KYOSHO BLIZZARD DX
I just installed that Great Planes Flaperon Mixer for $17.00 on my two Tazer escs and it works great! The Dx moves like it should - just like a tank on the 2Ch Futaba Attack TX and RX. Sorry, I decided not to purchase the Sabertooth. I think the mixer works just fine. BUT if you want to run a show plow, I guess you do need a Sabertooth like controller? If you do, then I would stay away from that $75.00 controller on Ebay and go with Dimension Engineering's Sabertooth. I'm sure they have great customer support and a warranty program on all their products!
If you have problems with the Sabertooth, it will be easier to call Dimension Engineering than some guy in China who sold you his controller!!
Just remember that the Sabertooth does not like AM radios! Use FM
I think the Blizzard DF or Ev bodies may fit on the DX. Check EBay.
P.S. I just listed my Kyosho Blizzard DX conversion on Ebay this evening. I hate to do this but, I really need the $$.

V4impactor,
As for the over spray on the Lexan Body, soak the entire body in mild mineral spirits for two or three days. Wipe off paint with a soft cloth and wash off with warm water and mild soap.
You can purchase a gallon of mineral spirits in the paint supply shop at WalMart for little money. ***Dont use anything that contains acetone.

Just for my own information, what brand of control is it, and where can I find one in case I come up with another dual motor project?

Very nice set up!
Here is mine with an additional RX battery to save on main battery power and for added weight. ( The BEC red wires unhooked from escs), the two 15T Tazer ESCs and the mixing box:

The Kyosho America site now has a listing where you can put your name down to be notified when the new blizzards are released. One is electric and the other is nitro. They may be just fishing to see how much interest there is. To see the page click on specialty. The frozen tundra
