More on possible sherman build
So I am still brainstorming on ideas for my sherman build and I came across old war pictures on the M 10 tank destroyer and that looks like it might be a fun one. Has anyone done the M 10? Also are there any conversion kits or anything like that or any parts available for this tank?
Thanks
Thanks

I'm going to be building a Jumbo from my Mato sherman. Getting all my reference material together as we speak. My jumbo will have the upgunned 76 in it since I just like it more. most Jumbo's kept the 75 gun as they where assault tanks for the infantry.

edoubleaz-looks great so far and keep us updated I looking foward to see how it turns out...I am especially intrested to see how you are going to do the turret.
Panther G-
Is there anything in particular that I need to do to the stock Mato sherman barrel to make it a 76mm?...I know from pics that some of the M 10s barrels looked similar in design but I am pretty new to armor in general so its hard for me to tell the difference.

The stock Mato gun tube is more a 105mm...same problem as HL...Nick Aguilar has proper size guns for $20. [email protected]

I did a scratchbuilt M10 and an M36 many years ago. The M36 turret can also be used on the M36B1 (Sherman hull). It was a fun project. The turrets are the hard part. The Mato Sherman VVSS suspension is needed for an authentic model. I have seen a conversion on this site that would be a good start. I can post some pictures of my models tomorrow if you like.

Years ago, when there was only the first issue of Tamiya Shermans (and Bandai tanks), I acquire some Sherman basket cases for conversion projects (the first ones with the clutch drives). The M10 and M36 conversion looked easy, all I had to do was build the top deck. The Tamiya HVSS would be bogus of course, but one lower hull with interchangeable turrets sounded like a good idea. When I did the M36 turret, I got the idea to scratchbuild the VVSS suspension for the Sherman and turn it into an M36B1. These are far from perfect, I build for the fun of it, and use "artistic license" as an excuse to explain my inaccuracies. Since the turrets have open tops, the interiors were the fly in my soup. I don't know which I avoid more, interiors or rivets. Anyhow, this is what I ended up with.
For some reason I couldn't load the photos. I'll try again, maybe in two posts.

I still want one of your M10 turrets..... Yes I am starting to scratch mine. The plan is to make them laser cut like the hulls. Stay tuned!

I only have one M10 turret, and that is like asking me to give you one of my children, or my wife!
Uhhhh, actually we could work that wife part out. Probably no charge.

Rex Ross...question...I noticed when when looking at the interior of the turrets(very nice job on them by the way) that I didn't see the mechanism that would raise and lower the barrels...are the barrels fixed in place? Or how did you get them to move?

The barrels are supposed to move????? [X(] Dang! It was all I could do to make them look halfway decent. Making them operate was a moot point since I couldn't make a crew that could move them. The reason I put all of those accessories all over the interior of the turret was to hide the fact that I couldn't figure out a way to do that. Not enough room for it was a deciding factor. You certainly have good eyesight and know your stuff.
But the breech works..............

Nice breech...and honestly I was looking atit trying to figure out how in the heck you got the barrel to move..then it occured to me that there was no possible way to do it...atleast that I could think of...but still nice job on the interior.
