Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
Hello,
Just got some tensioners for my HL Jagd. Has anyone installed these? I am having problems. First off the instructions are in German. There's pictures though, phew. If I install them as indicated in the pic's it puts the idler about 1/4" too low. Anyone else noticed this?

So I have bored my monting holes. I think I have found the right location. Problem number two now. The the retainer that mounts on the outside interferres with the set scre that sets the position. There is no way it will mount up. This is defnetely not a drop in install by any means. The parts have excellent workmanship but they just plain don't fit.

RE: Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
I just got mine and the instructions are in Greman!
I seem to have two diferent washer/backer setups, and some extra parts. The pix show what was in the package. I have figured out what to do with the parts above my tool but the stuff below my tool is a mystery. Five washers? Also the nuts do not fit the allen bolts. I think I can make it work but you're right, this is not a simple "bolt on" upgrade.
Oh, and the pictures in the instructions show parts I do not have.
Phil did give me a heads up that I would need to do some modifacations to make it work.

RE: Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
It has two different washers cause the torsion suspension system is correct, unlike the tiger I ! so the left road wheel swing arm is set further back and on the right side the first swing arm for the wheel placement " first station" as the Germans referred to it is sitting froward. both wheels are in the same position allowing the swing arms to face in opposite directions giving a smooth ride, I think there was a propaganda video showing a panther going through a rough course of uneven ground and inside there was a guy cutting a diamond in the tank showing how SMOOTH THIS SUSPENSION IS remember this one guys LOL
Back to the washers the one shaped like a c goes on the left side were the last station is closest to the rear, and the complete washer goes on the right side.

wow, all mine came with is the 4 washers. You will need them as spacers to get the idler in line. The other items (which I did not receive) appear to be hardware to mount the idlers.
One thing I noticed and this is a big deal, is that the set screw interferes with the reinforcement plate on the outside. Was this an issue with you Chiefson? I had to grind a slot in it (weakening it) so the set screw would fit.
Sorry bout the fuzzy iphone pic.
Not quite sure what Idlers I need with this setup. The screw on type (like the mato upgrades and stock HL won't work. You need a pin much as the road wheels use. Do the Asiatam idlers use pins?

RE: Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
Yes i to had to file a channel for the set screws. My chassis is far from stock at this stage it weighs a ton and all that is attached is the Asiatam 321 gears, rear idlers. I 'm also not happy with the pin/Screw supplied in the package for holding in the idler. It will get replaced for sure.

On the bright side, the metal suspension arm and upgrade spring upgrade was absolutely awesome and I would highly recommend it.

Thanks for the insite as to the diferent washers, the jagd seems much better built than the tiger. I'm a couple of weeks from mounting these so if I get stumped I may ask for the template. What's it made of?
I got asiatam tensioners for my tiger and had to modify them too so this is not a suprise.

RE: Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
From what i see in the photo to the left is ; starting from top is a spare idler and below that is the mounting screw, that goes into the tensioner, tensioner below the screw to the left .then i believe it is the right support and ring along with 2 ,2mm screws to keep the support halves sandwiched with the chassis together along with the set screw to lock in the axle."the right the support is the support with more then half a circle and the complete circle outer ring. next to that is the left support the one that looks like a wedge, slice of pizza and the outer ring that resembles a c.when placing it on the chassis the c will face the front on the tank.to the left of the support is the other tensioner. Below your tool to the left are brass spacers /bushings that go into the idler and then the screw into the bushings. 1 for each idler .and the washers are to align the idled with the track.hope this helps

RE: Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
It does, thanks.
I'm prepping the jagd for paint and will install those before the camo goes on. I think I can lay out the position myself, set it so the relaxedposition is the same as stock with addjustment room backwards.
These are not sprung like my tiger set, just fixed in a position that works. I think I may try to modify the setup to use springs.

So mine are on and seem correct.
I cut off the plastic axle and filed the hull flat there. I was left with two holes in the hull. I drew a line from the center of each hole and then measured down along that line from the edge of the top hole 1mm. This piont I used for the center of my 13mm hole ( sloppy 1/2 inch ).
Relaxed it sits where stock sits, with lots of room ot move backwards if I need it.

Yes, I did.
This shows the position I mounted mine at. Basement tests show it works so far...

This shows the inside, note where the shafts hit the hull back bracket. I had to grind the shafts down to make it work, about 1/4 inch each.
The side shot shows how close the set screw is to the washer. Grind the hull as flat as you can before mounting or the set screw has no room.

RE: Rear tensioner for HL Jagd question
In addition to being too long the shafts were not set at a true 90 deg, to the bracket on the addjuster. I had to bend the shaft to get it to 90 deg.
After cutting and bending this material, I can say it is good quality hard steel.

This shows the position of the addjusters and the idler at this point. I have 88 metal links in( metal had 87, plastic had 88, so go figure ) and if it gets too lose I may take out a link and reposition the addjuster.

Mine are installed but it seems like I may have gotten different parts than you. As mentioned, my set screw interferred with the outer collar and I had to grind a slot in it for clearance. Looks like yours have room to spare. Our parts physically look different. Our mounting location looks the same though.

I wondered about that. That is why I posted the picture of my parts. I never used anything that was below the tool in the photos.
Here is some pix of the inside to better show the position.
