Clark electronics TK20
Hi Guys
just to let you all now about a new board on the market http://www.clark-model.com/eng/index_e.html its plug and play just remove the RX18 add your aftermarket Receiver/Transmitter and a few mods and your set to go ive just got me one and the sounds are 100% better than H/long sounds are set to the board for the moment tamiya recoil mechanism can be added and also servo style re-coil the battle system mimics Tamiya's also the nasty H/long recoil is gone some pictures of mine next to the Rx18 http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...01/TK20005.jpg http://i418.photobucket.com/albums/p...01/TK20002.jpg no other board is needed although a Tamiya battle apple is and also a better speaker is required instead of the H/long one he also does a H/long version which keeps the airsoft system if required |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
oops forgot to mention it will also support 2.4ghz as wellhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ssed_smile.gif

RE: Clark electronics TK20
That is all good info, but how much. This seems in direct competition with an SLU so I would like to see a cost comparison.

RE: Clark electronics TK20
my prediction is this hobbly and products available to it will explode over the next 12 to 24 months. As a consumer of 1/16 scale product I am very excited about the things on drawing baords I have seen and discussed.<div>
</div><div>This is one example, this board really does look like a copy of the RX18 though but does offer some interesting things.</div><div>A you tube video is not quite the same as a full review though.</div> |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
This very exciting news, but after looking at the instructions, for converting your HL tank to this new Clark system, it is not really plug and play. One still needs to disconnect several wires from there connectors and solder and or connect these wires to new connectors. Also have to build your own Tamiya Apple plug. This may be a simple task for some but not all. Still it is great to have another compatible control system that may work with Tamiya. Would be nice to know the price of the unit as well.

RE: Clark electronics TK20
They are £33 each shipping is £5 to the uk

ORIGINAL: FreakyDude my prediction is this hobbly and products available to it will explode over the next 12 to 24 months. If an electronically challenged dope like myself with a multi-meter can adapt existing boards to do different things, imagine what an electrical engineer could do. Or even just a hobbyist with the right gear. I'm not in anyway putting Tamiya down by this, but they pretty much dictate the market as 'the standard' and RC tanks is a tiny tiny part of their picture. Tamiya-san is a great businessman, but a static modeler at heart. I wish the RC tank hobby was driven by tank first interests, such as El Mod, that way we'd by leading with innovation, not just adaptation. In my mind, there's no reason why we shouldn't be battling with directional armor and damage, or repair tanks like the IBU offers. We don't because the Tamiya apple is what clubs want to see and adopt as 'the standard'. |

RE: Clark electronics TK20
AFV as you know the board can you do a review and post it here?<div>radios supported are the futuba and JR systems, what about other brands?</div><div>movement inertia? what about hits? does the board have support for weight classes? Loading times?</div><div>I went on the website and it is vague other than saying the word "compatible"</div><div>

RE: Clark electronics TK20
i sure will Freakydude
im not an agent For clark but i love what the guy does and have been praying that he will get more involved in this 1/16th scale i had a little in the development of it but that was just 6 months of e-mails and letting him know just what most of us really want a system that is better than H/long sounds this is very close to Tamiya in the sound department and something clark specialises in Tamiya battle system compatible now his boards are Tamiya and h/long battle system compatible i havent gotten that far with mine yet as ive had other "honey-do-list commitments" to seriouslly sit down and play with it |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
HI I have a Hen long tiger 1 no sound or smoke which application would work for me. THANKS
|
RE: Clark electronics TK20
I agree AVF432, there is a how-to, just not truly plug and play for the entry level tanker trying to get into this hobby for the first time. I am not knocking this product or trying to say this is a bad product. I think it is a great addition for those of us who have been doing this sort of conversion. The price sounds great as well. For just roughly $52 dollars U.S. one can have a Tamiya compatible HL tank. Very cool stuff !!!!

RE: Clark electronics TK20
There are a lot of ready to fly and ready to run models out using 2.4 Ghz radios. I don't understand why HL does not change their radios - or list an extra cost board to replace the 18 that would allow us to plug in 2.4 Ghz sport radios. I would gladly spend $40 + dollars to outfit each of my HLs even without better sound. The Clark system sounds interesting. Hope someone imports them in to North America. jot from the stepps of Wyoming with battlefield smoke available statewide.

I was told that the upcoming 2.4 ghz kits won't come from HL inside their tanks, but will be available as aftermarket kits to replace the RX18, more or less as Clark's offer.

An explosion of electonic upgrades on the market for HL tanks. We will have a wide varity of choices now. El Mod, Benedini and Beier are still the only ones offering programmablae sounds, but it looks like Clark has a system on the drawing board that will use programmable wav files as well. I wonder if Heng Long ever imagined that their Toy tanks would spur such an aftermarket of upgrade parts. First it was better mechanical parts, and now electronic parts. |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
ORIGINAL: YHR I wonder if Heng Long ever imagined that their Toy tanks were spur such an aftermarket of upgrade parts. First it was better mechanical parts, and now electronic parts. Now if only Tristar, Eduard or even DML would see an opening for more 1/16 static offerings. I'm really surprised we haven't seen a 35t chassis. Think of all the kits that could be built off that hull: Marders, Hetzers... Or the Pz I and Pz II. |

RE: Clark electronics TK20
Hi Rob, this sounds like a good solution for my Abrams. Do you know if it will have abrams sounds?
|
RE: Clark electronics TK20
the next round will surprise the lot of you guys.
so lets see we have true plug and play all the way to complete swap outs. The electronics are improving and we are not stuck using tamiya any more. wonder what is going to be next hmmm what do yall think? New programming? New Tanks? New extras for sale? All this and the price is moving down, not up. Wonder how long that can last?? RE: Clark electronics TK20
I agree it's going to be run with the big dogs or stay on the porch. This is why it took me awhile to decide on an electronics package for the sherman, a lot of decisions and most if not all are top of the line. This is getting good.

RE: Clark electronics TK20
Did anyone look at the stick layouts on page three? Looks really strange.
Darryl Usher |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
Might be a little confusing on the battlefield if the stick set up stays that way. I suppose with programmable radio's and some selective servo channel allocation, you might be able to tailor it to something more user friendly.
|
RE: Clark electronics TK20
I looks the same as slu in original form easy to change
|
RE: Clark electronics TK20
I don't see how you would change the cannon elevation. This must mean the SLU is built by
Clark. Maybe if we asked him to change he would do Elmod sticks. Just like Tamiya but with more options. Don't know about HL. Darryl |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
My biggest concern here is the support for the radios, IF you own a futuba or JR it would seem you are ok. To buy then then have to buy one of those radios kind of makes this option a very expensive one.<div>Like everything else we will have to wait till mid august to find out if this system is any good.</div>
|
RE: Clark electronics TK20
going to test it on some spectrums and planets in a week or two ;)
clark has assured me that 2.4ghz works just fine with his boards after the lengthy discussions ive had with him on these boards im not doubting his word ;) and before anyone asks no im not his cousin, nor am i his business partner lmao and if you do a search for clark on this very forum you will also note i liked his 1/35 offerings and ive been pestering him to venture into 1/16th for a while now Rob |

RE: Clark electronics TK20
He just seems to be assuming based on similar control layouts. From a second look at the vid it's not 100% the same, the mg fire is like the Tamiya and the engine starts when the tx is turned on. It looks like its operating in a mode two (?) style. Looking at it you could easily assign movement to the right stick and other functions to the left.

RE: Clark electronics TK20
No, I had ask a question of their slu tech and he said he didn't know. I thought that was strange.
When the Clark unit came out, a friend said look at the sticks, they are the same. I don't think two people would design the same poor thing. Darryl |

Darryl and not saying that clark designed the slu or vice versa i still think you need to get one to try and get over your fear of sticks it'll do no good you knowhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...wink_smile.gif |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
Yes I know but I will try. It's small size is a plus. All four of my tanks run with one 2.4 TX.
Three are Tamiya and one Elmod, I would not use a different set up because it's cheaper. Darryl |
RE: Clark electronics TK20
The only difference is using the select function with up or down and then increasing or decreasing with left and right. I have both Tamiya and slu systems and it's very easy to get used to!

RE: Clark electronics TK20
Just when I thought I could narrow down my choices from 4 current offerings, between the SLU, DBC3+Benedini, IBU, & Mako, I have to learn about the TK-20.
Wow, if it wasn't hard enough to make a decision for upgrading a HL tank already, this is yet another option to highly consider ... not a bad thing at all, but now my head is starting to hurt again! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...bananahead.gif The firing, turret, gun barrel, reload, hit & death sounds are improvements over stock HL sounds from what I can tell from some videos showing off this TK-20 unit, but when I was looking at this one video of a running tank with the TK-20 in it (Driver Test, the first vid below), I figured the engine sounds (start-up, idle, running, shut-down) were still going to be the basic HL sounds, not really any excitement from that aspect. The engine sound didn't seem to really ramp up with throttle, no squeeking track sound, etc., just HL vanilla really. TK20 sound module Driver Test Then I was informed by a rep from Clark Model to watch the Elephant video for a better idea of the current engine sounds. HB Elephant sound Much better audio quality could be noticed in the second video, & better sounding than a stock HL. But then he rumored even those are outdated sounds, as they are developing an even newer engine sound driver that will be a WOW to the market! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/thumbup.gif So when the new TK-20 modules start shipping in force soon, expect to be WOWed even more by the new sounds too. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../msn/49_49.gif The thing I'm not sure about ... the sounds might be much better, but do all the TK-20 have the same sounds like all RX-18 do, or do you order specific TK-20 for different models of tank. How many tank models for sound do they support ... etc??? I was also told that the TK-20 is programmable like their CSCII module (here), & if so, to put it lightly, this upgrade seems absolutely fantastic with all the features for just a flat out $60 price-tag! Seriously, a fully featured single card that completely replaces the RX-18 electronics, adds 2.4GHz Tx/Rx ability, tank classes with proportional reload times, slows movement for damage simulation, reduces the hit response judder & recoil, replaces ALL the cheesy HL sounds with much better sounds ... & all for about $60+ shipping? ... someone pinch me, I must be dreaming again! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../omg_smile.gif ~ Craig ~ |

Pinch pinch

RE: Clark electronics TK20
the version one tk20 was good
version 2 which is the one being made available is much better and clark sure nows his stuff just take a second to see what he does in 1/35 and yes you will be amazed |
