RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
ORIGINAL: no12skyline Under TBU play the tank that the battle system rides in hardly matters at all - I could set my Sherman 105mm to Heavy and go toe to toe with a King Tiger or JS-2. All that matters is that it has a TBU with an IR emitter, hence registering and giving IR hits. All that stuff about two-part ammunition is going toward an onerous realism that takes fun away, rather than add fun to IR combat. Probably not a factual statement. Let us know how that 9 hit Sherman concept works out for you at your next tank club or backyard rc tank meet. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif If I couldn't get a Tamiya 90MM M36B TD to be accepted as a heavy in TBUplay, good luck with a pop gun TBU 105MMSherman. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gifhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif |
RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
I'm not quite sure what you mean by highlighting Jagdtiger. I'm purely talking about the gun, I'll disagree you can't separate the gun from the chassis, you don't say the 88 was pish because it was mounted in the xyz tank. I think what Scott was getting at is in terms
Of range accuracy penetration etc the 128mm is a better anti tank weapon. ORIGINAL: rcleo Me thinks you need to read what the man actually put. No reference to the combat effectiveness of the jagdtiger, just it's gun...which I think was used as an atg (correct me if I'm wrong). OK tomhugill, easily done: "the german 128mm in the jadgtiger was the best tank killinggunof ww2", not according to <span class="subheading14">Otto Carius. </span><span class="subheading14">Can't really separate the chassis from the gun, into a "best category", they both work together as a system.</span> A powerful gun is useless if it can not get to and or stay in the fight. And the post also addresses this statement, which appears to be designed to short change the effectiveness of the WWII JS-2, which played a bigger role than kinda a strumtiger: <table width="100%" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="4" border="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td bgcolor="FBFCFF" class="msg">"the 122mm was more of a bunker buster, I have always thought of the IS2 as a kinda strumtiger"</td> </tr> <tr> <td width="20%" bgcolor="F7FAFF"></td> <td bgcolor="F7FAFF"></td> </tr> </tbody></table> Past the historical WWII stuff, my interest is TBUplay and the JS-2 works for me, it looks good in ways the KV-1 doesn't, so I will save for the kit. Enjoy! |
RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
Yes, I was just talking about the gun, the jadgtiger was a road block, that is all.....but the IS2 was not really suited for tank killing ether. I do not know about you but I would not want to face tanks in something that could only get off 2 rounds per minute.
The electronics will be interesting inthe IS2 kit.....will it just be a kv1 setup?.....if so, it will have momentum built into the box. Momentum makes for a much harder tank to fight with...even more so with that great big telephone pole sticking out of the turret. I like the looks of the IS2 but if it has momentum in the electronics, I will most likely not be fighting with one. |
RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
If this is the case see if you can swap the Dmd for the t-03 which either has less or no momentum! I'm sure there's a kind soul out there who would. Hell if you don't mind the shipping your welcome to one of mine :)

RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
Agree with most of comments from both gentlemen, but still no way around the fact that tanks are judged by militaries around the world based on overall balance.
Superior firepower, good armor protection, and poor mobility, is not balance, hence there is no way the Jagdtiger gun can be judged a "best main gun". Dosen't mean much of anything to separate out the parts (main gun) from AFV package and assign a "best main gun rating" if the AFV package isn't working well in combat, plus the Otto Carius comments say it all anyway. Still, the JS-2 was successful for the role it played in WWII as a heavy tank and a tank designed to effectively counter Panthers and Tigers (FYI, German armor was about as slow as the JS-2 or slower and rate of fire was dismal when compared to modern armor). FYI: 2 rounds a minute is all the WWII JS-2 needed if it wacked you just once with the first shot! http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif |
RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
Actually, been there, done that. When I get friends coming over, we mess around with having everyone battle on heavies, and if we want a fast game, everyone battles on light. Sometimes I battle my Panther as a light tank just for the extra challenge and rate of fire! Factually speaking, what tank it happens to be doesn't matter under TBU as its recognised according to its weight class setting.
I mean, you sound like you're in a club that insists Sherman-based chassie have to be medium and I guess even allowing a Pershing to be a heavy isn't universally accepted given the Army's own classification of it being a medium tank. Probably club-level games are a lot more serious stuff than my backyard bashing. |

I have yet to see how severe the new Momentum is on the Tamiya's though, so I have no idea how hard it is to control. The DBC has mild momentum, just enough so you can't slam it into reverse and back away at light speed. |
RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit
Yes, speed and momentum should be controlled in IR Battles. That would make it more scale. I have seen videos of Tiger II's speeding away like a dragster. and the whole swing shot thing? Wouldn't happen in real life battle.

ETA is still March in the US. Tamiya saysthey willtake my pre-order, but why would I pre-order something without knowing how much it is going to cost, and I certainly would not take a pre-order from a customer without them knowing the price. Tamiya at its finest!!!!!! Hopefully will have good news shortly Karen/Girltankette |

ORIGINAL: wsn123 Thanks for info - maybe any details about engine sound in Tamiya IS-2 are known - the new recording or the same sound as it was in Tamiya KV-1 tank? As I understand Tamiya official video IS-2 presentation is still unavailable? <u>KV-1</u> had V-type 12 cylinder 4 tact diesel engine with liquid cooling - V2K (500 HP). In second half of 1941 KV-1 had V-type 12 cylinder 4 tact carburator engine М-17Т (500 HP). This lasted until Spring 1942. <u>KV-2</u> V-type 12 cylinder diesel engine with liquid cooling- V2K (500 HP, later it was improved to 600 HP) <u>IS-2</u> had V‑type 12 cylinder 4 tact diesel engine V-2IS (different type) - 520 HP So I guess and hope that the model has a different sound... |

tamiyausa has the msrp @ $2,024.00. Highest price for a tammy tank to date. Generally you can cut that in half, so $1,000.00 for a kit at release.
