Well, that's Great!

But will someone PLEASE tell Me what Tamiya has against producing a 1/16 scale M1 Abrams or T-72???

RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit

Quite unexpected model, but happy to see that they abandoned the easy way of producing just variants of their existing models.

My guess is the F.O. electronics won't get any substantial improvement, though.

I had been watching for a while at the JS-2 model from Modellbau Schmiede, but I think I will wait for the Tamiya model, now.

Hey, chalk one up for the Allies (I think), but I'd really like to see a British tank too. :D

OK, now we are talking.

This tank should be received well and the sale figures indicative of this market. If this tank does not sell well and provide a pleasant surprise for Tamiya then we have no one else to blame but ourselves. This is a tank that has been on the top or part of everyone's wish list for quite some time. My hope is that Tamiya actually gets surprised by the sales numbers, and start to focus on us a bit more.

The manufactures for the most part have been giving us duplicates, or rereleases that no one has really asked for. This however is different. I want one of these.

It is a re-hash, I'm sure it'll be a IS-2 upper hull and turret on the KV-1/2 lower hull. That means wrong road wheels, sprocket, and track amoung lower hull dimension inaccuracies. Guessing Frank should expect lots of orderson his IS-2 wheels. Still glad to see Tamiya coming out with new products, but I'm with F, like to see something british or maybe a Samoua.

Tamiya wouldn't do that would they?

Very Very DISAPPOINTED. EPIC fail, they picked an allied tank but still they missed the bus as a T-34\76 would have made their sales sky rocket. What is wrong with their sales\marketing department.

What a great piece of news! Will buy one, of course!
ISU-152 would be released as well, I hope.

The JS-2 will be in the shelfs by february. The price in YEN is the same as the others tanks (except sherman and <strike>abrams</strike> leopard)

Well if mato cover the t-32 in metal and Tamiya have the js-2 then that's a pretty good Russian line up! Just need conversion kits for the tank destroyers. But mainly your missing the point that this is a new Tamiya! They haven't completely given up on us and this is a model I've wanted for a while!<br type="_moz" />

rivetcounter 11-09-2012 05:40 AM

RE: 1/16 R/C Russian Heavy Tank JS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ Full-Option Kit

As usual the tank has not even been seen yet and we have people complaining so what if Tamiya uses the same hull just so long as it’s to scale and all parts are correct what is the problem did the Russians themselves do the same? (I actually have no idea if the dimensions are the same)

I’m sure that either a T34 or a British tank will be in the pipeline after Tamiya realises the IS 152.

Mordock, simple reason why up till now Tamiya have not built an Abram’s, sales would be low and Tamiya would have to pay royalties, the Bunbeswher commissioned the Leopard 2A6, so if you want to see an Abram’s get the US army to dig deep I’m sure they would be overjoyed to send money to Japan, but if you really wanted one there is a conversion kit in Germany and the 1/16 basic model that has been around for years .

I just can’t wait to see all the threads with the following titles “Where can I get an IS2” or “Why can’t I buy an IS2 now” I suspect this will not be available until early/mid 2013

Agreed! I'll be getting one too. Nice to see some Sov heavies to go head to head with the Tigers. Wonder if they'll slow down the reload time as on the prototype?

Okay Rivetcounter. Can you point me to who in Germany makes this Conversion Kit?

Also, I disagree, I think a M-1 Abrams WOULD sell well here in the USA and well as its opponent, the T-72.

Heh. Seems like You WWII guys have Tamiya's ear. I think its time some of us "Modern Warfare" Folks got got the act and begin a persistent writing campaign to Tamiya. ;)

Not the IS-152, but the ISU-152 is likely to come after the JS-2, sharing the same lower hull and half of the top one. Frank from modellbau schmiede was also working on it.

I also think YHR is exactly right, we vote with our wallets.

Guys, there's plenty of time to bash Tamiya for inaccuracies *after* we see photographs of the actual item. For now, the fact that Tamiya hasn't completely abandoned 1/16th RC F-O tanks is reason enough to celebrate.

Although mildly excited about the JS-2(would rather have IS-2, but I'm sure that would soon follow),I'm very happy Tamiya is finally  moving past their re-hashes of re-hashes philosophy. Like most I think the T34(76) would be a goldmine as far as the tank market is concerned or maybe even something British for once like everyone has begged for years for. Hell I'd be happy with a Japanese tank as there are none of those on the market either.  Something I've noticed is that Tamiya tends to wanna design late war tanks, would much rather see some earlier stuff(i.e. Panzer II,M3 Grant,Crusader,Matilda,B1,etc.), am I the only one who's noticed this??

I probably need to move some kits I'll never build to get this one. And if it needs the correct wheels... SCHUMO has some wheels now so I bet they would quickly produce what's needed if necessary because Franks parts are EXPENSIVE!!! Just a muzzle brake for my planned KV-122 build was 50 bucks. :D

One thing I definitely notice is that they love a heavy!
I count 9 heavies (of all periods) to 3 mediums

Heavys:

Tiger I
Tiger II
Panther
Jag Panther
KV I
KV II
Pershing
Leo 2
JS-2 (forthcoming)

Mediums:

Shermie
Pzr IV
Sooper Shermie (but not really)<br type="_moz" />

I'm happy to hear of this. I think it's a good thing that they are bringing a new option to us. Not everyone will be happy about what they decided on, but some will. I am sure it will sell and bring some new armor to the fields. Good deal!

If it is a rehash using a KV lowerhull it will be obvious. The IS lowerhull is totally different. If they use the KV lower hull it would be
more accurate to come out with a KV1s or a KV85. Would love to see an earlystepnose IS2.

this is the 1/35 JS2 from tamiya, you can bet it would be to scale like all their tanks ... no one have seen them yet so why complain either

its a nice addition although i don't like russian tanks but that's my opinion that would say ttheir stuff isn't not advanced , it's still top of the bill , tamiya kits

All I can say is if the new Tamiya model does not have the mixture of track sections with the variants of plant codes on them, I'm not buying one, period. And I expect the bolt holes for the spare tracks to be threaded also, and the mud scrapper had better be scale and metal.
