In World Of Tanks, you use gold to buy additional garage slots for tanks. I think gold works for the wife as well.

It's all about the timing.

HLs are easier to sneak in because they're small. It's the mammoth Tamiya shipping boxes with the beautiful eye-catching logo that takes some careful choreography. It helps to enlist the kids too: "Alright, UPS just left, here's the play: one of you go to the back of the house and knock something over, the other wait at the top of the stairs for the hand off, run it to the shop, put under the bench...and don't open it!. On two, break!"

Tamiya should send them in a plain package marked 'assorted bits of wood, nothing to see here'.

I've been trying this for 20 years now. My wife's always on the go doing something, but has not discernable hobby to speak of. Nothing that I can support or contibute to in terms of gifts, etc. The only thing near to a hobby that interests her is gardening, but that sucks all of us in...Instead of running off battling tanks, shooting airsoft at, or crashing planes into each other, we end up doing yard work.

It's a trade off in my house. I get something, she gets something. Plain and simple. Keep momma happy and everybody is happy.

With as many tanks you have Bob I would think you're used to it! ;)

It's a very simple decision. When you're sitting in that porch swing, gray haired (if you have any hair left by then) watching the sun go down, do you want to be sitting next to that tank or to that little woman that gave her life to you, nurtured you, did your laundry, fed you, and most of all loved you with all your hobby quirks?

Believe me after 34 years with the same woman, the hobby is meaningless in comparison to the woman that loves me for who I am.

I'd give up the hobby for her in a New York minute if that was the decision at hand.

That's love I agree and feel like that. I'm 36 and still in love and she is more important that my 50 years in the hobby.

Typically the whining can be stopped with some quality time.

I have been married for 29 years, and still to this day there are times I have to spend some effort to quiet the whine. It has nothing to do with money and everything to do with time.

Panther F 04-20-2014 08:11 AM

My second and present wife have been married (and as strong as ever) for 33 years. It's a give and take as she loves multimedia gadgets (I-Pods, E-Books, etc., etc.) and I have my hobby. We both know the money story so we both are responsible to what extent we can take it to.

Of course I probably get by with more due to my 23 year chronic disease I've been dealing with... and so has she. It's been awhile since I have been able to BUY an RC tank but I have 4 Tamiyas in the closet to build yet. The last 1/16 tank I bought was last year and it was the SU-100.

Last year was a spending spree as I sold some stocks and bought 2 HL Panthers, 2 HL Shermans and the HL Chinese tank. ;) And paid some bills too.

every dollar in RC tanks my wife gets a dollar for her things, it has to be fair on both sides

junkjet 04-20-2014 01:20 PM

I have found that some small gifts from jtv. Does just fine.

Green Amphibian 04-20-2014 02:08 PM

It has been 43 years since we tied the knot. I thought the whine came when the bearings went bad. I build tanks and boats and cut the grass, she gardens, and if she doesn't want it cut, she better put a fence or rocks around it.

No Matter what our hobby is they are going to whine when they feel neglected. spend some time with her and if that doesn't work ask what you would you be doing it not enjoying a hobby. it could be worse.

siam 04-20-2014 06:02 PM

The day I bought a HL M41A3 5 years ago ,she was with me assisting me of buying it and also called it "Bulldog". ...We spent times together playing the Bulldog in a park and I let her play it herself many times.
Now I am planing to buy some more HLs there is no any Whine.....

Maximilionalpha 04-20-2014 09:42 PM

Next time she runs out to buy a pair of shoes, go with her and whine, the entire time, every time. :)

Imex-Erik 04-21-2014 05:23 AM

A cheap receipt always works wonders too :) If you need one for our tanks I'll see what I can do for you guys, you would be surprised how much that matters at some of the shows I go to lol. I'm lucky, I've been with mine for 7 years now and she is just as big of a nerd as me if not more. I had her driving the 1/5th scale gas powered monster truck in the backyard this weekend. She asked me why I didn't have a gas powered tank....

As has been suggested, she needs to feel she's more important than the tanks. Putting down the tanks for a while (even though painful, I know) for quality tiime will tame the lion.

It's like preventative maintenance, gotta do it to prevent a total breakdown.

Kwigen 04-21-2014 07:13 AM

Improper lubrication. First clean with alcohol, Pina coloda, then apply proper palm based oil warmed in a tropical sun. If whining continues, the unit can not be salvaged and the "ring" gear must be discarded.

bowlman 04-21-2014 08:50 AM

Get her a tank and paint her name on it see if she will play .
