Best way to Glue plastic to metal?
 

What do you guys use for attaching plastic to metal?

My metal mud flaps had to be screwed to the tank as glue wouldn't hold it.

Just wondering how I'll attach metal hinges to plastic hatches.

Plus I need an opinion:

Do I go for the hatches here that are metal plus they have hinges?

As far as the glue goes I have had a lot of luch with 2 part epoxy. 5, 10, or 30 minute depending on the job and your attention span.
No matter what you use make sure to roughen the metal (and plastic) with sand paper in order to increase the surface area of the bond and give the adhesive something to 'bite' into.

Cyano works ok too but be carefull as bonding can be instant. it comes in 3 types thick, medium, and thin. Thick is for porus materials like wood and for gap filling and fillets, medium and thin for non porus items like metal and glass. Becarefull useing thin type as it can "wick" into joints like hinges and other movable items perminantly bonding them. I also use JB Weld Quick. It is a 2 part glue like epoxy. it also comes in regular low cure as well

I use Zap a Dap a Goo on the plastic to metal and plastic to plastic. It holds pretty good. As for the hatches I used just the hinges. I was going to get the detailed metal hatches with interior detail from Tankzone, but they were out of stock. So I bought the hinges from ETO til I can get the detailed hatches. Using just the hinges work out OK.

I use Great Planes CA adhesives from Tower. Very solid bonding when I glued my metal hatch mounts to the underside of my HL Tiger. Have all 3 and use the middle one most often. The thin one runs and gets everywhere, bonds in .001 seconds if you know what I mean! I need a couple seconds sometimes to set things up!

forget tankzone and try the blueslatesman on the Bay of despair as he usually gets them and is a lot cheaper than the first (also easier to deal with)

Hi guys you have missed somthing to make a good joint first you must key i.e rough up the surface of both parts then clean no dust allowed then apply the the glue then make sure its in the right place because it will take some moving

Perry hit it on the head of the nail. All my projects use the 2 part 5 minute epoxy. For those projects needing more time and more items to glue on, use slower setting adhesives. :D

Guys,

Plastic welder is awesome, you can even sand and paint it, and it sticks to metal, I have used as filler on a few gear boxes to keep the end bushing from slopping around!

This one looks like it's only one hatch where as the other is two hatches.

I use yellow glue, it got some flex in it. and works very well.
