Default Redcat Racing Volcano EPX throttle issue

I have just upgraded to a LiPo 5000mah battery and all was well during the first go with it, but on the 2nd charge and run the truck drove very slowly at first, then all of a sudden picked up speed for a moment and then stopped. I now only have steering control but no throttle? I have changed the batteries in the RC and no change. Have I burned up something possibly?
appreciate your thoughts...

If I had steering yet, I'd check the connection to the motor first.
How long has the motor been used? I ask this 'cause I'm thinking maybe the brushes are worn so much that they are not making contact with the comm.
Any LED flashing on the ESC?

Thanks for the reply. The motor is about 1.5 yrs old but only recently been run hard (with the new Lipo). Yes, I have flashing light until paired with the RC. I also notice that when I turn the wheels I hear a crackle or electronic type of noise...almost like static but louder.
