Either one will work great as long as you get the bump start version. If you get a pull start you have to modify the engine mounts because the engine wont sit correctly.
If you google saxton mod you should be able to find step by step instructions

The way the chassis is made the pull start will hit it causing the engine to tilt forward. You have to either shim the mounts up or custom make some. The bump start is a MUCH easier option. It pretty much drops right in. I had a LRP .28 in mine till it finally died. I put an SH .28 in now. I love then engine. Tons of power and easy to tune. Almost identical to the LRP as well.

You dont have to raise it that much. It still lines up fine its just a real pain to get it adjusted. Any maintnance on the engine or clutch takes longer because of the time it takes to align it. The bump start just drops right in.

I mounted my speed sensor to the center diff assembly. I put the silver dot right on the center diff. It took some work to get it to line up but it works fairly well. Ill see if I can get a picture of my set up

I just got my ST-1 Pro in the mail yesterday, will be building it up shortly. I know its an older model truggy, but the price and the quality of the kit seems unbeatable to me. I really don't see why this wouldn't be a competitve truck on the track. I still haven't picked out an engine for it yet, I've got a few in mind though. I'll try and take some pics along the way of the build.

Can anyone tell me what pitch the stock spur is?  Shredded a pinion gear on the first run of the newly brushlessed ST1.  Could very possibly have been a loose mesh, but never found a solid answer on the stock pitch.  Want to make sure I get the right one if that was the problem....Pinion I shredded was 32p.

Thanks in advance for any help

Thank you Jon...you are correct.  Hobbico support got back with me to confirm it.  That explains why my pinions both shredded.

Your going to need a rear wing mount  for the truggy look. Any 17mm wheels will work with 0 offset I believe! Also any body designed for a MBX5T will fit perfectly!

Smaller wheels (like proline MTR) with 0 offset will rub on the front turnbuckle. Look for at least 1/2" offset or bigger wheels like LPR or VTR

Um yes, but to be honest you'd be better off getting a truggy from someone since you're new, that way you'd learn then know what to look for your next time around...That's what I did!
Had a Raze ST, then ST1, now I have Mugen Truggy...
But yes it's a good price for the race kit ST1

I'm a newbie and I'm thinking about a ST-1 for just playing around with. I saw two ads for one, one was a ST-1
Item #: TTR6233-F41C the other was Item #: TTR6233-F41 both same color. Also I saw ads for F42C and F42, they were a different color truck. The C versions were about $20 higher. Anyone know the difference? Also the ad calls it a Stadium truck, but here you guys consider it a truggy- can anyone explain, please? Also I'm thinking about a Redcat Monsoon, which would be better?

Well from my understanding the higher priced one includes a glow plug igniter and charger. Someone correct me if I'm wrong....
Also it is by standards a Truggy, that's just there wording...It has 3 differentials which makes it a truggy. The only reason I would see why someone calls it different is because from the factory it doesn't come with a wing but they whole kit for it is only arond 12-15 bucks. I wouldn't touch the Redcat, it can't compare to the ST1 in terms of durability nor performance. Also one of the ST1 kits comes with a 2.4ghz radio system.
Just google the different part numbers and you'll find your answers but stay away from Monsoon. It's an off brand stick to the well known vendors. You'll be paying in the end if you don't. My ST1 was damn near bulletproof, I never even broke once.
