Default st-1 vs. crt x1

Im having trouble deciding which one I should get. Im mainly a basher, but I will take it to the track probably twice a month maybe more if I like it. I like both of them from what I have read so far, and I really like the st-1s price tag. I really wouldnt even consider the crt, but my LHS had one and I dont think I have ever handled a truck with suspension so smooth. It was better than pillows.

Which ones engine is stronger?
Which one has better servos?
Which one has a longer wheelbase?

For me durability comes first, then the raceability.

Me and my dad are going to be splitting the price for christmas 50/50, and I told him I wanted to get an st-1 and put an lrp 28 in it and he said that im never happy with what it comes with. He said I would rather you get a more expensive truggy and be happy with it, so I mentioned the 8ts price tag and he said well maybe not. Getting another engine is a better idea. But if I get the crt I cant afford another engine.

Dont worry about the stock radios becuase I will be running my mx-3 on it.

The ST1 has a good engine. Tell your dad that no RTR comes with an entirely satisfactory engine. The best way to buy RCs is to buy a kit and everything separately, then you know there's non compromise except your own budget.

I told him it was 650, but really 600 is still alittle high.

but I do like the 8t, and at the local races I have helped tune and drove trucks with the 427, and I think its a pretty good motor.
and If I got the 8t I would have another nice radio to play around with. IDK I will see how much money I can come up with before christmas.

ST-1 Pro is now $389 at amain, and you can get a new Mach 427 WITH pipe on e-bay or even from a shop for $125 or so... Yeah you'd still need servos, etc.., but still..

What about the Hyper ST RTR?? Everybody seems to be absolutely raving about them..... - especially for bashing.. Supposedly REALLY tough, and the SH 28 engine makes it pretty fast I hear...

heres what im thinking right now.

TT st-1 rtr $300
LRP z28 $175
reciever $30 so I can run my mx-3
servos $70

total $600 hate to say this but dad was right im going to be spending the same amount either way. Thats an eight-t right there. but I will have some back up parts. Will probably wait awhile for a new motor.

IDK about the hyper st it just looks so plastic. Im a believer in the plastic over aluminum, but plastic shock towers come on.

You have a point about the ST-1 RTR - $300 is ridiculous...

Don't forget you need a wing kit though...

That WAS an RTR.. I've posted that vid a few times after seeing it on a German site..

It's got an LRP Spec 3 in it, AND the optional 2-speed.. Hardly in RTR form anymore...

But yeah, that there IS a 2-speed option for the ST-1 is a bonus...

yeah I have seen that video before also.

To start off here is whats in my cart at amain. the servos and motor are going to have to wait a little while(probably a month for servos and 2 months on the engine.). If I can get the stock servos to last me a month I will be fine.

FYI I just bought Badlands with the offset Proline dish rims, and the stock Proline moulded foams were iffy IMO.. - too mushy and the tires didn't seem like they would hold their shape.. I ordered green Panther foams, which are better but also a weird fit.. I think the Badlands are just a weird tire, and probably wouldn't buy them again.. I might try the ofna yellow foams though next time. The green Panthers, though much wider than the stock, fit better cuz the Badlands have a tall sidewall...

My amain list was similar, but with the ST-1 pro and an ACE DS1313.... I would think it would make more sense to start off with a good servo than new tires, or??...

I was able to get gps on my st1 with stock engine. Running temps of 270 I was able to get 43mph out of it. Not bad for a motor that has less than 10 tanks through. I dont normally run my engines that hot unless im racing. I like to be about 260

when i wanted to buy tires i searched at tower hobbies because they give sizes for everything then found the best price. to make the tire fit right the rim needs to be atleast 2 to 3 or 8 mm bigger than the inside diamiter if the tire (rubber) the ofna rims are 4 to 5 mm smaller than the badlands inside diamiter
it took me about a week to find the right combo and something that looked nice on my truck

I knew the badlands would get some attention. I have some molded foams that are pretty nice from my grp's so maybe I could use those, but I have heard that the badlands are some of the best bashing tires.

thanks for letting me know about the rim differences

yeah I have screwed it up before to. its not even funny I have some half offset, 17mm(I run 17mm on my revo) wheels that are to small. was going to run my grp's on them but they are way small.

I wouldnt have to buy the badlands but I run mgt tires on the revo, so it would screw its gearing up, and I dont want to have to change the gearing everytime I switch tires.

I have come to about $525 for a pretty nice set-up. Still less than an 8t and I will have spares.

st-1 $300(rtr)
tires and wheels $70 (badlands, with black proline dish)
servos $60 (I now im cheap/ bluebirds)
pipe $50 (I heard a pipe will really wake up the ttr 28. is it true?)
reciever $35 (hitec micro 75mhz)
failsafe $25 (duratrax micro)
wing and mount $20 (extended mount and himoto wing)
charge switch $10 (hitec)
-$25 at amain
total $525

still debating if we should spend $75 and get an 8t. What do you guys think? is the 8t as durable as the st-1?

I don't know what Spektrums go for in the US, but here they go for a nice price, so the 8T RTR is a very attractive option even for people who already have a radio, because of the resale value of the radio...

One thing about the 8T is that there are more chop-shops on e-bay etc.. for getting cheap parts, aren't there?? ST-1 parts would require always ordering from A-main pretty much if I'm not mistaken(which I may be..) www.killerhobbies.com is also a great source for Losi stuff..

Tough call... For me too... My policy on tough decisions like this is to try to distinguish between what your gut or heart wants to do, and what your head says you ought to do. Then go with the gut/heart..., i.e. what feels right, not what you think you ought to do...

yup you said it PatrickBW
i buy all my parts and fuel on line so thats not an issue. i havent found a local hobby shop yet and so far it dosent matter because if there like all the others they would need to order them anyways and cost me more

that just made it harder on me. My eyes say GET AN 8T AND RIP, but my gut/walet says get an st-1 and take out all of the 8ts at the track(im JK i would never do that, unless its my buddies truck)

I just never hear about the 8ts durability, but I never hear about it getting broken either. Just cant decide. I will tell my dad about killer hobbies price and see what he thinks. maybe show him some awsome pictures and video.

Both of them will eat an os .18 for dinner right? so really i wont be disapointed either way.

the 8t is very durable but like you i dont want to spend that kind of money for a truggy thats why io got the st1. if i wanted to spend 600 again it would be for the lst2 again.
if you need info on the 8t go here http://lstforums.com/forums/ all the info on any trucks that half to do with losi. like i said great truck but not 600 dollars worth, think of it this way the radio is worth around 250 so that would make the truck 350 the same as the st1[X(]

Just told my dad about the 8t and he said as long as I can get my 50% its OK with him, so maybe one of these days I will have an 8t.

I guess I already have bashers(my erevo is the bomb), so now I just need a racer that I can go race with. Now the question is how am I going to get $100 for a transpodner.

Does the radio that comes with the 8t have a built in failsafe or do I stilll have to get one.
