estopsflight,
Nice job on the build, looks good. How do you like the Jp-4? I am a big fan of the jp-2, I tried the jp-3, but didn't really care for it. Also I have one question, have you ever dealt with Rcmart.com or Dinball? I can get the kit version shipped to me for 460 from them.

thanks for the compliment!
nope, never dealt with ordering kits/parts on the 'net but going to start as I need spares, esp wheels and tires for both Nitrage and Inferno GT. I'm located in Hong Kong and the local Rc scene is not what it used to be but there are adequate shops for the mainstream products. Unfortunately, they lack in some respects for certains parts I want!
Love the JP-4. Chose it due to some recommendations found on the 'net. Dunno know how the other models perform but I am happy with the '4. Much better than the cruddy plastic stock one!

@nauticar
the tires are going bald becoz the negative camber setting stated in the manual of 12mm (together with my shock settings) made the front tires wear on the inside edges. the wear was pretty bad so I swapped front tires for rear on both sides and set the negative camber to a more neutral setting of 14mm.
this has resulted in more even wear but even with hard cornering and acceleration out of turns, the tyres are showing wear on both inner and outer shoulders. the thing that has exacerbated this is my constant running on asphalt. there is loads more concerete surfaces in the urban jungle of Hong Kong so asphalt is a little better.
centre of the tread seems to be wearing okay. looking for a set of harder compound tyres next time so I can get more tailslide and 4 wheel drift.
i got massive understeer so I would like to sort that out. what do you recommend?

Try using heavier springs in the back, this will transfer the weight to the front and put more weight on the front tires giving you better traction up front. The stock tires are horrible in the dirt and do not grip very well.

thanks for the tip.
smashed my nitrage into a soccer goal post today. broke yet another front arm, popped the upper support out the fititing and bent yet another shock absorber piston rod.
lucky enough I got the spares to repair the damage.

That's not good! It sound like it could of been a lot worst. Today is the day I take her to the track for the first time.

it's the second time it has happened. the place i bash is on a soccer field. at each end there are full size goal posts as well as minature size set placed 10 metres in from the goal line. there were some people walking over my direction and i took a glance to see how close they were getting and that was all it took!
so you think the maximizer bead-locs will work with 40 series proline road rage tyres? the stock tyres are okay for asphalt but the steering throw is poor. i think nauticar is shaving his front knuckles to improve this. i hope a change in tyre will do this for me also.
have a good day at the track - let us know how you get on!
cheers

The Maximizer wheels will not work with 40 series tires, they will work with the maxx sized tires only. If you are looking for beadlocks that will work with 40 series, try the Axail beadlocks. They work very well, I have a couple of sets on some of my TNX's

Theese wheels will work with Proline 40 series wheels.
40 series tires are a lot wider than standard max size tires found on the Nitrage, so they reqiure a wider rim

the stock tires seem to be really soft......if you're going with the prolines i have to say that mine have even wear so far....but i only have about half a gallon through. like you, ive ran my nitrage purely on asphalt (and it's the beat up, rough type of asphalt), and there's quite a lot of tread left on all 4 sides.
i dont seem to get any response from the guy who mentioned the gandinis are better than the prolines lol

okay, will try disconnecting the front roll bar to see what improvement there is.
I quite fancy the pattern of the Proline Road Rage. I think they stocks are okay for asphalt bashing but would want a compound a little harder for durability.
need to do more research. not many choices for wheels and tyres, esp with 14 mm hexes in my neck of the woods. i will definitely go the 17mm hex road.

are i correct in assuming that all 1/8 monster truck wheels will fit all 1/8 truggies?

Correct, but most monster truck wheels are 14mm, so you will need a 17mm adapter to use on a truggy.

you have the kit version - an easier solution would be putting on the thicker rear stabilzer bar (or removing the front). sorry i have not had the time to inspect the steering mechanism!!! been playing with my durga!

1. Move the steering angle connector to the inside hole (steering bell)
2. Try a different servo horn with more adjustment options.
3. Adjust your TOE. If you set your TOE-OUT a little you will get sharper tighter turns.
Other than learning the power slide we have slim pickings when it comes to the steering. I have talked to some guys who test drive RC vehicles for magazine rating purposes and was given the same response, the Nitrage could use better steering. I was told that Tamiya might be coming out with a fix for the under steering if the Nitrage but ? I don't know when.
I was also wondering if anyone has replaced there clutch shoes and has anyone used a different clutch shoe other than the stock replacement? I am not sure if you can use a different one but someone might have tried.
I am going to put my engine back on and start tuning from the bace needle settings to see if the rebuild and sealing job helps me get a better running and tuned engine. Wish me luck.

I have done some talking on some other sites and from me just driving and adjusting the steering that the Nitrage has a large turning radius. I have tweaked my steering a number of different ways and have found that to get more out of the steering you need to do the following:
1. Move the steering angle connector to the inside hole (steering bell)
2. Try a different servo horn with more adjustment options.
3. Adjust your TOE. If you set your TOE-OUT a little you will get sharper tighter turns.

i already tried (1) and the steering throw is still unacceptably small. (2) and (3) are excellent ideas and i shall try those (when i get around to doing it!)
i dont have an asnwer for your clutch shoes question, and it will be a long way before i try non-stock new clutch shoes because i just ordered the tgm03 clutch. hope someone else has experience in that.
good luck in your sealing!

The track surface is soft in most sections, we are looking to drop some clay this season. It get's very dusty in the summer so dust control is a huge priority for us this season.

@jim5150
I replaced my clutch shoes just recently after running my nitrage thru 6.0L approx 40 tanks which I think the instruction manual quotes as the expiry time.
I bought the replacements specified in the parts manual and they are common to TNX also. Readily off the shelf from my local tamiya agent. Bought two sets at approx US$9 each.
Good luck on the rebuild and tune!
cheers
