Default HYPER 21 ANY GOOD?

I just got a hyper 21 from a friend and was wondering are they any good? Thinking of putting it in my Hyper ST Pro or a Caster Racing k8T I am getting and sell one of my SH.28 motors. Is it strong enough for a Truggy?

Not really. I tried it in my ST-1 was pretty slow, couldn't even get the RPM's up. Poor little motor was struggling quiet a bit.

Oh well, I was hoping it would have enough for a truggy but guess not. I love the SH28 motors though I have 4 of them!

It's a great buggy engine when tuned properly. You don't mention whether it's the 4 port or the 8 port (8 port is faster, but 4 port slightly torquier). I would agree it probably doesn't have the low end for a truggy (although the 4 port might, just, with low gearing), but make no mistake, it was always one of the finest RTR motors on the market. The 8 port has insane top end, hits 40k rpm, so gear down and you might be ok. People were always like 'What's that motor in your Hyper 7!!!?' and I was like 'It's the stock Hyper 8 port', and they were like 'Wowwww!' lol.

Oooh, by the way, it runs hot. If it runs at 290, that's normal, nothing to worry about. Even 300 after some hot laps would not surprise me.

It is actually a 8 port motor. You think gearing down would help? like going a tooth or 2 down on the clutch bell? For a truggy of course. I have a Hyper ST pro that I thought of putting it in but that is a bit on the heavy side for a truggy compared to my ST-RR. I am also getting a Caster Racing K8T I was thinking of putting it in but do not know how heavy or light it is yet.

Gearing down would help a lot, yes, and with the long top end of that motor, I bet you'd find top speed was still acceptable, they're nice little mills honestly. They have carb issues sometimes though. Try to find a cheap OS20E carb as a replacement if you have any problems (air leaks).

Not gointg OT... but how do you compare a hyper .21 to a P7R evo2? they are both .21 correct? are there any slight difference between the 2?

Ya hyper .21 is definitely a nice motor. I went with the OS carb route as well. Then I went back to the ofna carb. All I recommend is you wrap the threads for the high, mid and low speed needle. That pretty much resolves any airleak issues. My friend who still runs a hyper .21 in this vid runs the stock carb as well and I put the teflon tape on the threads. It runs insanely well. I do not agree with this motor runs hot, this motor SUPER lean hottest it ran was 270F with trinity 20%. I have never driven such a smooth motor. Then again alot of .21 motor's are like this. I mean literally EVEN with NO smoke coming out the exhaust it is running like 240F. HOW is that possible!!

As you can hear it revs very high, and this was with a JP-1 pipe.

I've got a Hyper 21 8-port, but have yet to run it. I plan on modding the timing on it to get some power out of it. anyone know how good it is after modding?

The P7R is a superior mill. No conversation required. JB, I haven't seen a modded one. You know who to ask about that? - Da Smak.
