RE: Tekin RX8 and T8 Discussion
Randy,
I just put a RX8 2050 in my RC8T. I'm running 6s2P. What is the best gearing setup to run on meduim to large sized tracks. I currently have a 15/46 setup. Any thoughts?

I think that you should run a different motor to be honest. The 2050 is too much for a 6s setup. However if you're going to run it try a 12T pinion.

I gave you the wrong motor. The truggy has a 1350 on 6s2p with 14/46 gearing. The 2050 is in my buggy on 4s2p with 16/46 gearing. Please advise on gearing for both.
Also I'm running 6s2p 4000mah batteries on the truggy. I have not track tested it yet, but what is your estimate of runtime for a meduim sized track under aggresive racing conditions. I know it's a SWAG, but I'll take your SWAG over mine right now...

Not sure which setup to go with as far as motor... I plan on running 4s and converting a Monsoon XTR to brushless (provided I can find the necessary equip to convert it)

Your gearing sounds about spot on. If the temps are good run it! As long as your buggy is a Losi, Mugen, Xray, etc. If it's a AE or Hotbodies you're undergeared. The Truggy is good though.
If your motor is only getting up to 160 you're fine.

Randy,
Let me try this again. Below is a panoramic shot of my home track.

So what would you recommend for my RC8B which is running a 2050kv on 4s and geared 16/46 and my RC8T which is running a 1350kv on 6s and geared 14/46. I figured it would be helpful if I showed you the track. Any assistance would be appreciated

Nice track!
I think you're gearing seems spot on for the most part. that track has some technical aspects so I MIGHT drop a pinion in each just because it doesn't appear the straight is too terribly long. The lower gearing will keep the motors cooled off in the tight sections.
As far as speedo settings go stick with the defaults for the most part. If you want something more out of the car, telling me what that is will help me offer suggestions in adjustments.

the tight sections cause the motor to pull more amps and creating more heat, so a drop of a tooth on the pinion will let the amp draw come down causing less heat.

RE: Tekin RX8 and T8 Discussion
I was running mylosi 8ight 1.0 truggy with the tekin t8 2250kvandRx8 setupon monday at revelations and on my second run, about three laps deep my esc started acting up and now it is indicating thermal shut down. My motor has never gone above 160* and my esc has nevergone above 100*.I bought this escnot to long ago and it has been less than a 120 days but I dont have the receipt for it anymore How do I go aboout sending it in to get it fixed? I love the speed control but I'd refuse to buy another considering that I have only gotten about 3 days of running out of it .

RE: Tekin RX8 and T8 Discussion
This is a real quick question,
I have a E-Revo and a E-Maxx, the guys on the Traxxas forums say to run the 2250Kv motor with 4s or 6s LiPo's is this going to be too much motor?
could you recommend the right system for me? THANKS

It will be too much motor on 6s for sure. The 2250 is our highest kv motor for truggy length. It's great on 4s. However if you go 6s try something like the 1550 or 1350.

RE: Tekin RX8 and T8 Discussion
Hi there!
I just bought a used tekin rx8 ESC and t8 2000kv motor on ebay.
It was stated like new in the auction, but it was obviously a lie.
Is it normal that I can move the shaft in and out for at least 2mm?
It feels like the rotor is loose. And the shaft isn't as hard to turn as my leopard hobby 4074, and the bearings also feels like they need replacement..
I didn't have time to try it in my revo, but I am very dissappointed..
Can you tell me how can I fix the motor?

the t8 motors don't have the snap in the magnets like some other motors do but they are smoother and just as fast, ya can just get a bearing kit from tekin and swap em out and the play sounds pretty normal

I would actually measure the play with some calipers. There is always some float designed. Our motors were engineered to not have as much cog torque as some others. This gives us a higher efficiency because of it.

How about if I wanna run 2 9.9 v LiFe battery's in my Caster fusion HK truggy what motor set up would you recommend. 4S seems awfully slow to me on the large oval local track, wanted to go a little higher and since the Fusion run's saddle pack style and 6S seem like to much.

RE: Tekin RX8 and T8 Discussion
hey randy!,
man my t8 2250 was getting like 15 minutes and now the runtime is down to about 10 1/2 minutes on the same track and same conditions .... the temp has never been over 150 max .. but the cog torque seems to have gone away and its just not doin' it no more. im gettin ready to buy a new motor and im looking for somewhere in the area of 17 to 18 minutes runtime, because we are wanting to run our mains 15 in truggy instead of 10. its still in the RC8T on 4s running 16/50 gearng. any ideas on KV and starting gearing for it? i have been thinking a 1550 or 1700

RE: Tekin RX8 and T8 Discussion
i purchased my 1st rx8 in feb. it went out after 15 minutes runtime. it took 6 weeks to get it warrantied so i bought a new rx8 to cover it so we could keep racing .. well needless to say it took them 5 months to get it right, 6 weeks to receive from repair and the fan and screws where missing, 4 weeks to get the fan and screws only to find out it was DOA, then another 5 weeks to get replacement. so now the rx8 i bought to cover the 1st one has went out and its 1 month out of warranty snd they want another 100 for a replacement. i have been a loyal tekin guy since the early 90's well now i just ordered a castle creation mamba monster esc because their service is simply the best there is, they warranty a faulty product no questions asked.
