RE: KMP T-28C
Finally got the model out of the box and looked it over, nice model. I mounted my DLE 55 to see how it will fit in the cowl, the cylinder fits but the spark plug does not. I need to lengthen the standoffs by 20mm to get the prop flange out past the cowl ring. I want to put a Jtec pitts style exhaust on but might need to make a small modification to get it to fit. Can't do much more right now, waiting for the gear to arrive from KMP.

RE: KMP T-28C
HI Guys: I am working on some replacement switch hatch doors. I would like to offer something that looks a nicer than what the factory offered. I feel as though the rough finish is not to the high standards that KMP is known for. As a result I am pushing for some replacement doors and will make them available at no charge. We are hoping that a nice smooth resin door hatch will be available soon.

RE: KMP T-28C
I have the DLE 55 mounted and the standoffsadjustedso the prop flange is 1/2" forward of the cowl, and hooked up the throttle and choke servos. I had to move both the servos to one side to accommodate the DLE linkage set up. The air tank is very large and takes up quite a lot of room so i made holders that tuck the tank to one side and glued them in place. As you can see there is plenty of room for all the equipment that is needed to operate this beast.

Wow, this aircraft takes the cake. Painted Solartex wing, Hidden switch panels, I have a friend who is targeting scalemaster competition with his. He is having Keleo Creations install a Saito 450 with a scale exhaust ring. Won't that be something to see roar down the runway.

I've been working on new gear doors for my T-28. The first picture shows what the original gear well looks like and then a few pictures showing the new doors and how they look open and closed.

Wow, great work guys! I am soooo glad y'all are keeping us posted with your progress. I absolutely have the this plane on my 'wish list', but will have to sell a couple of planes first...which is the hard part, 'cause I don't want to part with any of them.
Tango - I like the full gear doors! I see you have a fixed main wheel door, and the hinged strut door. I see how you are controlling the main strut door (just like the scale bird, nice.) How are you planning on controlling the inner door that covers the lower half of the wheel when retracted? On the scale T-28, that door was spring-held open. It had "U" shaped bar on it that contacted a roller on the main gear strut as the gear retracted, the door eseentially being 'pulled' closed behind the main gear as it tucked up into the well. In fact, on preflight we'd check that inner door by pushing on that 'u' bar to close the door, and making sure there was spring tension on it.

RE: KMP T-28C
Pneumatics, I plan on using a pneumatic actuator operated by an air switch so when the gear is fully retracted it triggers the switch and closes the inboard door. And in reverse when opening the doors air will take the path of least resistance and open the door and then the gear will follow. It works in theory, but I still need to work out the details next. Pictures will be posted soon. The nose gear will also be fully inclosed and will be operated by pneumatics as well.

Can you give us an update on that Saito 450 installation? I'm wondering if the T-28 cowl diameter is large enough to accommodate that engine which is 9.25" in diameter. I'd like to install an OS FR-300 which is slightly smaller than the Saito at 9.21" diameter. I have an exhaust ring for it which could be made to exit the scale location with little trouble.

RE: KMP T-28C
The Saito is a tight fit. KMP had one on display at the Northwest Model Exposition in Washington State. It did fit. The exhaust ring is another story. All I know is Kelvin at Keleo is custom fitting one to a T-28 now. He may have a new ring out for the custom install, The 450 plus the ring was not a shoe in because of the engine box. The 450 without the ring fit fine.

RE: KMP T-28C
Progress has been slow with everything else that is going on, but I did get the nose gear doors made and worked out the pneumatics. All the gear doors are made from glassed balsa, three layers of 6 oz. on the exterior and two layers of 3/4 oz. on the interior. I used micro piano hinges for a more scale look. The door action is controlled by an air switch on the gear retract servo. Originally I was going to have the air switch be triggered by one of the gear legs but this method is much simpler and more reliable. The magic is in my JR 12X, I slow the servo down to a 2 second interval, giving the gear enough time to fully retract before the doors close. Works great. I started to put the tail feathers on and ran into a small problem, the holes for the rudder are 1/4" to low as seen in the photos. I will need to fill the holes, make a jig, and re-drill in the correct location. When I purchased the kit from KMP the rudder had been package before the clear coat was completely dry and had imprints from the packaging. As you can see, Gus from KMP did a great job at repairing the finish and it looks great. That is all I have for now, the main gear and engine final assembly will be next.

Nice landing gear, but where did you get it? I can't find it on the Robart site and it looks like it has been deleted in other sites that sell Robart gear. I have a T-28 on order, but I'm getting a little worried that there might not be any landing gear available for it.[] Inquiries about this to KMP have gone unanswered.

RE: KMP T-28C
I received the gear from KMP, however it does not fit. I am still waiting for the correct gear to arrive. As a result of installing the gear doors I was able to use the main gear as is. They were 3/8" to short but I moved the actuators inward that 3/8" to accommodate the doors, so I was able to use them. I also had to modify the wing where the retract actuator attaches so that when the gear is up and locked the doors are flush. As for the nose it is still to short and the offset for the wheel is to small. (If you look closely at the picture in my previous post you can see that the tire is smashed against the bottom of the strut near the torque link.) I made a block that lowers the actuator and tilts it back 8 degrees so when the gear retracts it it retracts fully into the fuselage and clears the doors. The actuator is a 115 degree actuator less the 8 degrees of aft tilt that i built into my blocking the nose gear has 7 degrees of forward rack which is just right for this airframe. Needless to say this is still an ARF but I have done a lot of work to it to get it airworthy. The only way I was able to use the gear was because of the modifications I have done, this gear would not have fit into the stock airframe. So far I have been told twice by KMP "next week" for the replacement gear parts. To me, this is a minor set back, and I will have it worked out soon enough.

RE: KMP T-28C
Thanks, TangoPapa. I talked with Gus today at KMP and he told me about the gear...it must be ordered through them if you want the Robarts since Robart doesn't list it in their catalog. So.....after about a grand, I've got myself a T-28 with retracts. I got the primered version since that's all they had left. I want it that way anyway to make it a little unique from the others. Here's the engine I want to install with exhaust header installed. I think it'll fit.

RE: KMP T-28C
How's it going with the T-28? Has anyone flown yet? I'm also interested in flying this aircraft with a radial. I wonder if you might be willing to measure the cowl diameter where the cylinders would be, about 4 inches back from the prop hub. I'm thinking that the O.S. 420 7-cylinder with a three blade prop might be nice.
