Mine flies great on electric power. Lots of flights on it now and the only change was to add some length to the nose gear to get more positive stance which helped take off a lot.

Wayne,
I have always used 12S on my planes with the e-flight 160 and never had an issue. I currently have three planes with that setup and have used it on many more in the past too.
I use a 9S and 10S setup with the Power 110 and it's great there too. I don't have too many 5S packs and just started using 6S packs since I had a lot of them from my smaller planes. They voltage is not really the problem it's the amp draw and if you don't over prop the motor it's fine.
I also use the Castle 110HV on all my 160 setups. I have a Rotomax 50 cc motor on my bigger P-47 (28 lbs) on a 12S setup and it will hover
Electric is great but at the 50 cc I have started to convert to gas engines as the weight is about the same at that point and you get much longer flights. Still way more power to weight with the electric setup though. My Rotomax swings a 25-12 prop and my DA50 only swings a 22-10.

Jeff,
Thanks for the info. I will go with your set up as it is a proven power system. I belong to 3 clubs, but the main club I fly with is all electric, due to noise issue's . Also the P-39 lends itself so well to electric power with the narrow nose. I should be starting mine after the Reno Air Races next month.
Thanks, again,
Wayne

Great flying plane, pulling mine around with an os 40 gf fourstroke and a 17x8-3 blade prop.... My c of g came in at 146mm with empty tank and gear up. very predictable, full flaps slows it down very well....... stall characteristics are very predictable, didnt offer to drop a wing...

I painted the sharks teeth and eyes myself, the rest of the marking were dry transfer decals but they were very expensive, like $185.00 and if i had to do over i would have went with callies.... probably water slides....

Hi Guys, its been a long long time but my P39 flew again today. It was a most successful day but I still need to add some more nose weight and fit the cowl. All in all the model flew very well and the Laser 240v provides more than enough power. I will get some photos of it when its all finished.

Great news, looking forward for the photo's Mine is still in the shop although progress is being made. Seeing as I am so slow I am storing up the progress reports until I get something worth showing.

Hi Guys, a few weeks ago I was able to finally get my P39 in the air for some more test flights. I clocked up a total of 3 flights without problems and am feeling more at home with the model. There is still a significant torque issue and I need some more nose weight, but I have got the landings sorted and there is plenty of power from the laser engine. I have now got the last piece of the fuel system sorted so the next flights will be with the cowling on. This is when we find out if my complicated cooling arrangement will actually work!

Quick update. I have now had 5 flights with the P39 and twice torn the nose leg off. the problem I am having is that the model lands so slowly that I am unable to raise the nose before touchdown of the model will climb. In fairness, the 2nd time was not helped by a turbulent wind, but its still annoying. On the bright side however the engine did not seem to overheat with the cowling on! so clearly my insane cooling arrangement is working

My model was very nose heavy and so I put the servos down the back end. When I did the balance it was still seriously nose heavy and so I moved the battery down the back as well. the test flights showed the model to be slightly tail heavy so I am adding small amounts of weight to the front end. Given how much lift the model has I am not worried about adding the weight and I cant really move my battery forward as its quite firmly wedged in the back now. If I can just work out the landings I think it will be a great model, the flying qualities are excellent. Next time I fly im going to try less flap angle to see if that allows me to pull the nose a bit higher.

Mine balanced perfect with 2 6S 5000 mah packs in the nose. I install them through the nose wheel well.
The only issue I had with mine is that the nose gear was too short and it "sucked" onto the runway until the airspeed was enough for the elevator to over come the pressure on the wings. Then it "jumps" off the runway. I ended up
extending the nose wheel about 1 inch and it's great now.

I am in the need for a cowl, canopy, front electric retract unit and a 2-blade spinner for this plane if anybody has any of these I would be happy to buy it from you. color doesnt matter as I have a custom paint scheme anyway and will have to repaint.
I will never buy another esm due to their lack of parts on these planes.......

Very hard to get parts for- though the spinner will be the easiest part to find.
If you still have your original cowl & canopy, you can re-make your own using the last one as a boiler plate, - simply repair itm, then use those as the pasis to make your new mold.
I'm using a P-51 spinner on mine- if it makes you feel any better.
Also, my ESM electic retracts are the biggest waste of time & $$$. Granted they are gen 1, so they take 30 seconds to cycle, but 1 burned out the other day and the nose drive pin came out of it's trunion.
Overall, I still think ESM are good planes if you're already an experienced modeler who doesn't mind spending time tinkering and making things better. Not for your standard ARFER though.

Another approach is to call ArfPros. I have done that a couple of times and have been able to get the parts I was looking for.
Not sure if this would work out, but I would say it is worth the call the website is advertising ESM Replacement parts.
The Spinner looks to be another story unfortunately.
Cheers

Over the past several months I have made some progress on the P-39 actually mine is going to be a P-400 in USAF / ex British Paint. I have glassed the wing, installed the Radiator and Oil cooler inlets in the leading edges and have the exhausts for same put in. The cockpit is completed and ready for final assembly and pilot installation.
I am currently working on the Elevators and Rudder, Chad Veich has been a big help and has cut some pinking for me for the control surfaces and he has also created all the wing hatches covers and fuel tank covers. I have not got these on yet and will do so before paint.
Here are a couple of pictures of how things look, its finally starting to look like a plane
