Paul that one is looking real nice. I have not got mine standing on its gear, I am waiting to get the mains back from having some work done on the electric actuators on the mains, the mains are not Down and Locked. I have a Down and Locked on the nose and the Sierra gear and the electric conversion work very well together. I am fitting my elevators on at the moment and once they are on and aligned the next steps will be; the rudder, complete the install of the cockpit and install the main & nose gear doors, put on on the access panels and the fuel filler/gas cap, fill/sand the canopy frame flush. Then its off to the paint shop, I hope my paint looks as good as yours!

Hi Paul, you got it this one was built for the British and they cancelled the order as a result of poor altitude performance. This was the result of the Army's rejection of the better, turbo supercharged engine. This plain was in the Pacific, still wearing the British paint. Here are some pictures before final balance in prep for its maiden flight.

If any one has had any problems with their nose gear mounts braking out here is the fix . I had this happen a few times and tried to make it stronger by making the mount blocks thicker and even replaced the front former but it was still breaking out . Then a club member told me to try and spread the weight out by adding some aluminum plates to the mount plates so what I did was mounted the aluminum plates to the mounts the same size as the mount plates on both sides from the secondary former to the front . and I cut out some of the wood mount plate under the mount holes and then mounted the front retract to the aluminum . And at first try at the field it held and was very strong in fact I will try and get some photo's posted for you all to see.

Mine has some right thrust as it flew like a dog without it!
Currently my model is in bits all over the bench. I got tired with the unreliability of the exhaust I made so its getting a rework, new tanks and fresh air vents for the carbs. I am optimistic about a much improved performance

I built mine from Jim Pepino's plans, which I'm told are what ESM used for the ARF. Had the same issue as warbird 51 on motor/esc cooling. Here's some pics of the cowl so you can see how I did it. (Non scale chin scoop and a tight bulkhead around the motor to make all the air go around it or through it.)

Looks Great! Scoop is hardly notice scoop.. I have a Top Flight 60 size F4U wih an electric set up & I left the tailwheel down and glued open the gear doors for air to go through. So far, no problem. Of course I have yet to fly it in our 110 F + temps in Phoenix! wallace.tharp

I looked at the nose gear mount and it didn't look very sturdy to me By adding the extruded angles, it transfers a lot of the load to the firewall now. The whole front end will fail before the mount.
