Not to distract, but is there any ARF wildcat with landing gear available anywhere?

Here ya go. 1/4 scale, you'll need a MOKI 250 ,

Well that page has been up for quite a while and the price of the gear is still TBA. That doesn't give me much confidence that they will have any to sell. Even if I could afford it.

That is truley beautiful. And teh kit looks beautiful. Is there anything a little cheaper and a little smaller(but over 80")? Istill have the Carlson planes for the Wildcat, adn a seperate set of plans for the landing gear, but it's more project than Icould handle right now, I would like an ARF...

Hey vallawyer

You've hitted Jackpot!! Where are the manufacturing companies? There is a big gap here. The only ARF's on F4F's Wildcats are the parkzone for 900mm and the Fischer on giant scale. There is nothing in between yet made.
Unfortunately though because the F4F is a very very good flying airplane. It is capable of all classic aerobatics without bad habbits.
Good observation.

The Bates F4F is 91.25 inches in Span. Robart and CJM make the gear for it. The only other kit out there if you can find it is the Classic Glass kit. I think it is a little bit smaller.
I guess the old Wildcat wouldn't sell like a Mustang or a Thunderbolt in the ARF market. Plus the landing gear is a little more complex and would increse cost.

I just like Naval aircraft from WWII. Plus I have found they fly better, because ofcourse you had to get it aboard the carrier.... not as sexy as some of the other aircraft in WWII, however, the Wildcaat was about the only thing we had at the time in the Pacific and proved to hold it's own once tactics were developed. The FM2 version had success as a sub hunter in the Atlantic protecting convoys.

I like the Wildcat and when Leo put a glass Fuse. out for the Bates plans I jumped on it.
There is my two cents....

PS I finished the flow coat on the left wing, now it's sanding time, then on to glassing the right wing.....

From what I have read there where very few 1/5 92" ws Classic Glass Wildcats made. I had one and have seen one for sale sometime back. IMHO the Bate's 1/5 is a great build and flying airplane. There are a few build threads at RCSB.

The engine mount is now built. It was spaced back 1 1/32" to get the thrust washer where it needed to be. All of the control surfaces have been covered with Solartex. Working on the rib stitching and paneles on the rudder and elevator now.
I have the wings pretty close for panel lines and rivets.
I had a prop hub made based on a drawing I have. My muffler from Bission should be here this week so I can finalize the installation of the cowl.

Hey Flakbait,

Awesome looking Wildcat. Since you said that you liked anything Grumman, I thought I'd post a couple of "inspiration" pictures for you. Good luck with the rest of your build. I cannot wait to see it finished......

Well if you think you might make it and you want to meet up let me know. We will be getting in on Friday afternoon and going to the show on Saturday. I'll PM you my cell phone # and you can call me if you are going to be around either day. I always enjoy putting faces to names, especially in the presence of lots and lots of warbirds!

Well, it runs, working on panel lines and then on to the rivets...... My son had a co-worker machine the prop hub on a CNC mill. turned out nice.

Looks like a -4 Wildcat. Looking very nice! I have actually gotten comfortable enough with my heavy Wildcat to be able to come in pretty slow for landings. At 34.5 pounds dry with a Saito 450 it is about scale like flight. Great flier with very good presence in the air.

Carl,

Thank you, it is a -4. I hope I do not go over the 35 lbs. that is on the plan.
I bet the big Saito sounds awesome.

Take care.

My wife and I have laid up on a hunk of bondo sanded to shape for the carb intake on the cowl. Laid down flash tape, wax then some PVA. It should pop off of there. More "Stuff" added to the bottom of the wings as well.
Take care,
