Fokker D7 - aluminum constuction?
Has anyone constructed a D7 from aluminum tubing? Seems like a great plane to make using this material since the real one used tubes. I know there are some full-scale ones, but anyone make one from scratch or a kit useing tubing?

How about carbon fiber tubes? Just seems like if you want to go scale you could really do it nicely with tubes.

Jeff, check Paulo Severin out [link=http://www.paoloseverin.it/index.html]click here for the website[/link] this is IT!
After that you will not think twice about carbon fiber... One of the best Modelers in the world, some day I like to meet this great builder.

G-Pete,
Those are awsome looking planes! I saw an article on the Storch somewhere, but it's too big. I am interested in something easier to transport like a 1/4 or 1/5 scale Fokker D7 or D8.
If I had a larger runway I might go bigger, but for now that's about the limit of the field I can fly off.

I would think if you got some nice plans you should be able to make most of the parts at home with common tools. The only hard part would be welding the alumimun. It might be easier to use carbon rods? I wonder if JB Weld would work for either?
It would be a fun project to build one for sure. The cowl could be made from sheet metal or brass pretty easy too. I guess I could get a set of plans from Kit Cutters and build it from scratch. Might be a fun project. I need to make sure the plans are just like the original though and I am not sure the RC plans are exactly scale but in wood.
