Its a builders kit for sure. THe better ones come with a cockpit and metal cowlings.

Be very careful building, watch your weight. The ones I've seen flying seem to eventual tear themselves in half right before the wing.

Royal/ Marutaka kits have been out of production for several years now, so finding the kit and/ or accesories will be difficult and expensive ( all Royal/ Marutaka items are considered 'collector's items' ).
Also, as 'Evil' suggested: Royal/ Marutaka kits are traditionally a little heavier than other kits their size, due to use of lots of plywood in their construction. On the other hand, they are also usually more scale authentic than most other kits.

But if it was me, and I wanted to build a B-25 from a kit: I would purchase a Wing Mfg. Pro Series kit. Thw 'Wing' kits are slightly larger (large enough to qualify for giant scale), and 'Wing' offers MANY scale accessories, including a B-25B tail cone so you can build it as a B-25B/ Doolittle Raider instead of the B-25J.

I'm thinking a pair of Saito .62s would be 'the cat's meow'.

It is a good kit, I built one a long time ago, used two of the old wankels and had a ball a good set of 35-45 two strokers is all it needs.

forget all the Doom and Gloomers[:'(] and use common sense you'll be fine and happier. you missed it but a good place to find parts was the Perry Georgia swap meet. Royal made a lot of Good flying planes.

Happy flying .........Donny

The Royal B-25 is a great kit. As mentioned they are builders kits and do require a lot of sanding and shaping. The end result is worth it as they do build into good looking and flying planes. The B-25 being a twin, has a separate set of flight rules and precautions as it is a twin, however all the other basic rules of scale flight will apply. You need to remember that it takes more speed to take off and land than your basic flying planes as the wing loading is a lot higher than you might be used to and if the plane slows down to much, it will fall out of the sky. Good Luck, Dave

Here's a guy who built the Royal B-25,

http://www.thewebferret.com/b25.html

It should give you an idea of what you'll be working with.. Definetely not a kit for beginners.

Also this guy sells stuff for Royal/Marutaka. Real good guy. Ships super fast too,

Dunno if there's still interest. I dug my Royal B25 out today. I think I'm going to revive her this winter. I dusted her off and she still looks good. The build pics I found say I finished her in 1999, so she's ten years old. I plan on putting retracts in her this time. Not sure what markings yet. Will post pics of the rebuild if anyone interested....

I built one of the Royal B-25s about 30 years ago. I recall some of the details on the plan were in Japanese, as were all the Royal kits of the day. I enjoyed the build , but I distinctly remember the compartment in the nacelles for the fuel tank would only accomodate 6 ounce tanks. Hopefully, Royal re-engineered this for later issued B-25 kits. Anyone have bigger tanks in theirs ? Buff

Hi, I have a kit that's old but has never been worked on. It has the aluminum nacelles that you can see in the upper left hand side of the pic. I want $350.00 plus shipping. The shipping will be exactly what I have to pay. I live near Athens Ohio.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'm in the process of converting an old Royal B-25 to electric. She's the original-release kit with the cockpit details and metal cowls. An absolutely gorgeous airplane that someone put a whole lot of time and love into.

She was built basic 4-channel for nitro. No flaps, no retracts. And I'm going to leave her that way, I think. Keep her simple. I don't want to start cutting into ancient structure.

I don't know how many times she's flown but I've only seen her fly once. She was originally set up for K&B 40s, but those were replaced by OS 46s, and that's what I saw her fly on. The previous owner traded her to me because he was tired of dealing with the finnicky 1-servo throttle linkage and didn't want to bother with it anymore.

I'm using Turnigy 600KV G32s on 4S 4000s with 60 amp ESCs swinging APCe 12x10 props. I'm getting 510 watts @ 32 amps with a fresh pack. Should be lots of power. Batteries are going in the nacelles since the plane was built with fuel tank access in the nacelles. She was 7 pounds without motors in her so I'm hoping to get her in around 9 pounds.

I'd really like to hear from anyone who's flown one of these. Other than your average "High wing loading, keep the speed up" balsa warbird stuff, does she have any quirks or anything? I know being a B-25 she's pitch-happy and I'll have to dial back on the elevator. Every B-25 I've ever flown (FMS, Taft, EFlite) has been the same way, so I know that'll be something to look out for.

Looking for recommendations on CG and control throws, though! Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hi: Your B25 looks great! I'm still building mine and it'll be awhile before she's flying. I'll be using a similar power arrangement Eflight 590 KV Power 52's on 4s's with Talon 90 esc's. I'll mount the batteries in the fuselage, I think this will work better for balance. The props are 10x4 varioprops, these will let me change the pitch to try to match the power and I'll be able to run one counter rotating. I just stepped back into this hobby after years of absence, all this sounds impressive but there's lot's I don't know, and there is lots to learn.
