ESM Dornier DO 335

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
Hi Brian!
Have only made one landing with the Dornier, so I don't know how the retracts will stand out on a hard landing. I have moved the maingear 15mm out in the wing to make space for 5,5" wheels and soaked the wood with thin Zap.

Hello:
This message is for fokewulf37, Mr DJ, jimkron, TA152, and anyone else who has used Sierra retracts for their ESM DO-335 and has flown it.
I just received my Sierra retracts for my ESM DO-335. Wow - what gorgeous works of art they are! Worth the price. I test flew my ''Pfeil'' last summer with fixed gear, and now I am finishing everything up right. What I need to know is this:
Should I beef up the structure of the airplane where the nose and/or main gear units go. I realize I will have to do some cutting to make the Sierras fit, but should I also make the wood/fiberglass/etc stronger in those areas. Did anyone have any structural failures on a hard landing?
Thanks for your help.

The Sierra gear are beautiful and solid. I took some carbon fiber matting and lined the area between the ribs where the main landing gear attach. I ran the matting up one rib, then along the bottom, then up the other rib using the CF & epoxy. Think of it like laying down a rug. Hopefully, this takes the stress of landing off the ribs and spreads it out along the wing bottom more. I did not beef up the nose gear per se, but did add more CF to the area between the cockpit and motor since I cut the formers a bit to accomodate Ty's cockpit kit and my 20s battery system.
Not sure if you read my Sierra mod for the trailing link. The link, on my plane, needed to be elongated to fit in the wheel well.
I also added brakes from Sierra. So far, everything is holding up nicely....at 35 lbs....and electric.

Ta152, why dont you upload to Youtube your retracts in action?
I bet many would love to see especially your front gear door mechanism.
It is lovely.
And the pilot in the cockpit....The most sinister looking warbird ever.

For the record, I've met Mr DJ and never noticed his rear.
