RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
Mr. DJ,
Looking forward to pics of the DC-3.
I started to do some trimming to see if the bigger servo will fit. You know us modelers can make anything fit.[>:]
Since you think the Mini will be strong enough, I'm leaning that way now.
Best,
Jim

Hey Mr. DJ,
I'm feeling undecided about the elevator servo again.
This might be a wives tale, but someone once said the torque of the elevator servo (in ounces) should be 10 time the total weight of plane. Lets say our DO is 28 pounds. That would mean we need 280 ounces of torque between the two elevator halves. Our favorite HS 5645 at 6v would seem better than the mini.
How heavy was your jet that went 150mph and had the mini on the elevator?
Signed,
Wishy washy

Mr. Dj,
Nice V35. How many big planes do you have? Your air force is larger than some countries.
Another DO question. I think you said you have the ESM retracts. Have you put the nose wheel in the front strut? The fork is way too big for the wheel. I must have a half inch on either side of the tire. Am I missing something?

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
Jim,
I have 11 large and 6 small; down from 20+ large and X amount small. I was getting the ESM retracts but I backed out; waiting on the Sierra version to arrive. I will be installing wheels with brakes - just like the turbines have. I don't know where I'm gonna put all the plumbing, for it is tight in there, we'll see.

Hey DJ, yes I sold her but the buyer wants me to refinish her in a more sinister scheme....just happens to be the ESM scheme except with the wing mounted cannons.. SHe has been reglassed and I am in the process of of filling and sanding.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
Jim,
Did you know I have a Do thread also? I'm gonna drop out of Ty's unless I have a question for him. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10223951/tm.htm
As for the servos, I just cut the openings and you're correct, they don't fit without mods. I'm not doing any mods so for sure I will drop in the 5245s.

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
I red the specs of the Do-335 and after watched Mr Dj Video... It's hard to accept that this plane could fly with a 4S 1.20 + 4S .91 rear. Foil seems sooooo fat; fuselage soooo fat too.
Are we talkin about this plane, rigth?: http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/ESMDO335-83.html

Guille

RE: ESM Dornier DO 335
Well I am finally Getting started on the interior of the Do335. This thing going by wing span is about 1/6.5 scale. The 1/6 scale German pilot will be a perfect fit.. I have made the first cuts to the fuse. there is plenty of room for a full cockpit for this one..I discussed something with Darrell when i was installing the nose gear. He pointed out there is nothing but fiberglass supporting the nose section of this plane. Anyone putting a large motor in the nose should consider reinforcing this area. I am going to recommend it if you decide to put a cockpit into the plane. It would be really easy to do.
You could either use carbon fiber glassed onto the insides or since the wiegh is not an issue I would just use 1/8" balsa that fit tightly between the bulkheads and glass/glued to the interior sides...
But think about the stress of a 50cc motor and landing gear all in the nose.... Maybe not an issue as we all tend to over build anyway....

I am planning on doing the cockpit and maybe the Cannons. The carb intakes probably not, not a real demand for them and they would be hard to reproduce. I am really swamped now days trying to get caught up before the 190D-9 and p-39 gets here next month....
