Default P-38

Hello everyone,
If you view my profile you will see im a fan of BIG war birds. I have a 83" P-40 and a 92" P-38. My first p-38 was the E-Flite P-38 and I would love to find another one. NIB, Used, or even very used. I just had ATONof fun with this liitle plane but it didnt survuve the mid air with a foamy F-16. I would be even happier if I could find two of them so my son could fly w/ me.
Help me out guys.

Thank you in advance,

Kevin

Kevin, I don't know how serious you are about a Lightning...

buy if you want to buy one of the best P-38 in the US Glenn sell's his for $8K (covers about the cost of the parts). She flew at TOP GUN and scale masters. Besides that Glenn is a very good guy!

G-Pete,
Thanks for the input, I have a 92 inch nitro models P-38 (see photo below)and I love it, Although its not as nice as the one inyourphoto its pretty darn cool.
What Im looking for is the E-Flite foamy 48" P-38. I had one in the past and had a ball with it.

invertedlowpass,

I just bought an e-flight foamy P-38 about two months ago at Hobby Hangar in Chantilly, VA. Have it all assembled and ready for a maiden flight as soon as it warms up a bit. Glad to hear you liked it so much.

Did you use the landing gear, or just hand launch it?

I built this 91" CMP P38 for a buddy of mine. Man, what a great flying plane! Lands like a trainer (no joke!). YS 70's , ET air retracts. 16lbs 4 oz. dry. Four easy uneventful flights so far. Paul

Hi Paul, Yes they land great dont they?
I land mine no flaps, a little less the 1/4 throttle to the end of the runway and chop the throttle and grease it in.
I would just LOVE to find one of the E-Flite p38's as I really had a ton of fun with my old (God rest her soul LOL)
Forecast says tomorrow clear skys (after 6 days of rain)and 4 knot wind STRAIGHT down the runway.
I cant wait to get back in the air.

Nitro models 90" P-38 with many many mods for a more scale looking fighter. Two Saito 100s, Robart retracts, full cockpit, 3 piece wing with CF wing tubes, just under 20lbs, over 70 flights.

Crazy, but if you click on the picture, it makes it smaller and then you can file through them with the forward and reverse arrows.

We should plan a national fly in ALL P38's.
I am lucky enough to live just a few minutes from Chino airport (in Cali.) where they have three REAL flying p-38's. I saw all of them fly in may. In the air at the same time,.. 3 p-38's, 6, P-51's, two spit fires, four P-40's, Two corsars, An avenger, two B-25's the only remaining mitsubishi powered zero left in the world, two bear cats, a hell cat and a sky raider and a few T-6 Texans. I think I had tears in my eyes, it was amazing watching these beautiful planes just doing laps around the pattern. You can only imagen the roar of all these planes. at one point in formation,.. two P38's, two P51's and two B25's.
By the way,.. I have a P-40 as well

I dont know how many of you saw the post "twas the night before christmas" in this forum catigory but I kinda re-did it a little to better fit my liking. LOL
 I hope you all enjoy.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the field,
Not a propeller was turning, just ice on every windshield.
All the planes chalked and tied down tight
Ready for their long winters nap and this one crazy night.

When all of a sudden there came a great thunder.
I ran to the tower expecting to see some great blunder.
First there was one then there were two
I thought for a second,….Could it be true?

When out of the fogg I saw an great sight,
A shiny old plane with just one red nav light.
My jaw fell open, my hair stood up straight
It was old Saint Nick in his beautiful P38.

He taxid to the north end of one six right,
Did all his run ups and made sure that everything was right.
With my mouth still open and stunned to the core
Those two big Merlins began to ROAR

As he rolled down the run way picking up speed
with all that power,..1200 feet was all he’d need.

He pulled back on the stick and she began to climb
The towers radio sounded a chime
As he flew out of sight,
Over the radio I heard,…

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Same as G-Pete then. I have a friend that wants to sell his as is at 90% ready, less a much better finish. It has G38s in it. Wonder how it would do with them. I am considering it.

That must be one nasty Lightning... I've got the very last CBA 120" Lightning and will have two Fox 4.2's with Xoar 22X12 counter-rotating threebladed props. Now I'm thinkin its underpowered, but thats what I'm going with.

Hi, Greg. Do you remember the length of the mounting extensions you used for the DA-50's in your P-38?

I don't know about nasty, but she moves. She would fly with 50's but I could not spin the scale propellers and i just love the deep sound. Even with both 85's as power plants I had to add 2.5 pounds of weight in the nose...first video 3/4 throttle - the field is 650 feet long - do the math
Lucky you about the CBA...hope to see some pictures soon.

Yes aerofalcon they where the standard 2 1/2" extensions, then i made a 3/16 plywood false firewall and i board out the wood at each location of the extensions with a flat bottom augur bit to a depth that spaced the engines off of the cowls face with a 1/64th gap between the cowl & spinner backplate.
