RE: Battle of Britain Movie
My recollection is that in the movie it was Galland who made the statement to Goering about a squadron of spifires. My only source for this is the book I posted the cover to. It was written while the movie was being filmed and I have not heard of another. Also the Heinkles and Bouchons were still owned by the Spanish Air Force at the time of the movie, some being sold off right afterward I believe. I think it was Hamish Mahaddie who bought one.

Love that movie, inspired me to try my own sort of tribute when I was playing with an editing program & the IL2 game.
Unfortunetly didn't get to finish it, but hopefully entertaining enough, it was the sound mixing that took up most of the time as I used the engine sounds from real 109,s & Merlins
20mm cannons etc.

Horseheads is one word not two. I grew up there and have been to the museum a few times. At the times i was there, they were working on restoring a several planes as they have several restoration groups based out of that airport/museum. They were also restoring a B-17, PBY, Spitfire MKIX, B-25, F4U-1a and a Russian Mig 15.
As for the Stuka....I dont remember ever seeing one, even a replica....but its of course possible.

There’s two reduced scale homebuilt Stuka's that I know of. One used to be based at the Fighter Museum at Horse heads, NY and the other is in Russia.

I remember seeing the Stuka replica mentioned above at Geneseo N.Y. in the early 90's.
P.S. add me to the list of those who'd like to see some of the pics and etc. from that magazine write-up.

I just picked up a DVD copy of BoB in the Walmart $6 bin. Great movie. The movie Piece of Cake is much better in that it captures the feel of airial combat. The first time I saw POK was a few short months after returning from flying in Desert Storm 1 and needles to say I couldn't be torn away from it.

Wish they'd come out with a Blu Ray version of this film and other such WWI & WWII films produced in that era (i.e. Blue Max, Tora Tora Tora).

RE: Battle of Britain Movie
I had the very great pleasure of conversing via email with the late Gerald Martin who, along with a couple of other Confederate Air Force members, did a great deal of the flying for the BoB movie. Along with flying warbirds for fun, and crop dusters for a living, Gerald was also a prolific builder and flyer of models and I was introduced to him (via email) by some mutual modelling buddies. He had some great stories to tell and was kind enough to send me a few of his personal photos, including some he took during the shooting of the movie which I've posted below.
Gerald getting ready for a sortie in one of the Spitfire IX's used in the movie.
Gerald in front of a Spanish "Buchon", a bunch of which portrayed the non-existent Bf-109s in the movie
Gerald in the two seat "Buchon" which was used to introduce the movie pilots to the "eccentricities" of flying the airplane. This extremely rare variant of the Hispano still exists in storage on a ranch in Texas, along with a bunch of the single seaters used in the movie.
One of the Spanish Casa's that "sat-in" for He-111 bombers, along with the B-25 camera ship used for the air-to-air sequences.
CAF Colonels Gerald Martin and Lefty Gardner "on patrol" over the Spanish coast during filming in 1968.
Gerald Martin, Adolph Galland, Lefty Gardner, and (I think) Robert Stanford Tuck during filming.

The Stuka was most feared of all aircraft and was deadly accurate with its weapons.

RE: Battle of Britain Movie
Not related to BoB but to old war movies. I hope someone can help me find out the name of a movie I saw years ago as a kid. The movie took place in a German prison I believe where the inmates made a glider behind a false wall and used their porridge as dope. The glider was launched out of a wall opening or something like that. I believe the movie was supposed to be true. Hope you guys can help me out with remembering the name as I would like to see this movie again.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Battle of Britain Movie
My fav also.
There are so many cool lines in the movie.
"spring chicken to ****ehawk in one easy lesson"
"Silence! In polish"
"The RAF is not a flying circus!"
The best non flying line was said by the British ambassador. "so don't threaten or dictate to us until you're marching up whitehall! And
even then we won't listen."
